Interview:

Crystal: Today as part of the Goddess Fish Virtual Book tour, I have the opportunity to interview Khloe Wren. Thank you so much for stopping by today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Khloe Wren: I’m in my early thirties, am married with two young daughters and live in country South Australia.  I’ve always loved to read and have been writing seriously for roughly the last year.  I don’t drink coffee, but Coke and chocolate provide all the caffeine I need!  I spend most of my free time writing or reading, but I also enjoy going to karate training, scrapbooking and various other creative hobbies.  Oh, and I have a tattoo fixation.  I have four so far with plans for no. five and six.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for HER GUARDIAN ANGEL?

Khloe Wren: While I was quite ill and stuck on bedrest I had a lot of time to think and read.  I’ve always liked the idea of writing but never could come up with a concept.  So I sat down and thought about what animal I haven’t read in a shifter book, I didn’t want to inadvertently copy something I’ve read.  Deciding snow leopards (one of my favorite animals) would make good shifters, I had to consider where they would live.  I’m from Australia so wanted to set it somewhere I know. Tasmania is very cold in the winter and cooler than the mainland in the warmer months, with their thick coats I thought that would suit them.  I was a volunteer firefighter in my younger years so that helped influence their occupation.

Most of the storyline came to me once I started writing.  The twists near the end of the story I didn’t even see coming until I was writing them.

Crystal:  What are you currently working on?

Khloe Wren:  I’m currently working on Cinderella’s Guardian, which is book 2 of Fire and Snow and tells Conner and Tina’s story.

Crystal:   Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Khloe Wren: I’m a stay at home mum with two young daughters, my routine is to write whenever they allow me the time!

Crystal:  Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Khloe Wren: I write what I know as much as I can. I did need to research some scenes a little to get the facts straight. When it came to houses, I wanted to get them accurate to what the housing was like in the real world Rosebery. So I had a great time on real estate websites. When I found Adele’s purple house, I knew it was perfect. I can’t quite believe it’s real to be honest! Who paints their entire house purple?

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Khloe Wren: I am a diehard JR Ward fan. Saying I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood books is the biggest understatement ever made.

I also love Sherrilyn Kenyon, Alexandra Ivy, Shayla Black, Lexi Blake. I’ve just recently started reading more Australian authors, Angela Castle, Imogene Nix, Cari Underwood, Willsin Rowe … and so many more (sorry anyone I forgot)!

Crystal: Is there any genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Khloe Wren: Not at the moment. I wanted to write ménage and it took me a while to work up the courage to do that but that’s done now with my Dragons of Feury series.  I’m sure I’ll branch out to other genres as my writing career progresses.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Khloe Wren: This is one of my favorite scenes. It’s one of the dreams that Dominic and Adele share.  Adele doesn’t yet realize that the leopard, who she calls her ‘chaton’, isn’t purely an animal.

I love the image of this huge snow leopard squirming around on his back sunning his tummy. Brings a smile to my face every time I read it.

Favorite Scene Excerpt: She found herself back in their field. Tonight she really needed to see her chaton, needed him to reassure her she was doing the right thing by leaving. It was strange but it just felt right to share her secrets with him and seek his approval of her plans. Maybe it was because he was an animal and couldn't talk, couldn't reject her, that made her feel safe to tell him everything. She hadn't told him anything about these plans yet. She was saving it until now, the eve of her grand adventure.
She was so filled with nervous energy, she couldn't stand still and walked around looking for him. She stopped still when she found him and put her hand over her mouth as a giggle escaped; apparently, he was feeling playful today. He was on his back with his paws in the air, squirming back and forth, rubbing his back on the grass and sunning his tummy. He stopped squirming, tilted his head back so he could watch her upside-down with his ice blue eyes. She jogged over to him laughing.
"You want a tummy rub, my chaton?" She said as she knelt down and ran her hand over his tummy and up his chest. He rewarded her with a rather loud purr.
"Like that huh?"
She allowed herself to get lost in the sensation of his fur on her skin for a few moments before she dropped her bombshell:
"I'm leaving tomorrow."
The purring stopped suddenly as he quickly rolled over and sat up in front of her, head cocked to the side. She chuckled.
"You really can understand what I'm saying can't you?"
His reply was a little growl sound.
"Don't fret, I'm not trying to change the subject on you."
He made the noise again while giving her a hard stare. What was his problem? Oh crap surely he didn't think...
"Don't tell me you think I mean I'm leaving you?"
He gave her a slight nod of his massive head. She sat up on her knees to get up to his face level, took his head in her hands, threading her fingers through the thick fur around his jaw, she planted a firm kiss between his eyes.
"Never, my chaton, I'd never leave you or this place we have. I'm leaving my home, the one I shared with my Maman. The memories are too much for me. I need to start over and now I've finished with Uni I need to find a job. There are a few in Tasmania that would be perfect--"
He cut her off with a lick up her cheek and a loud purr.
"Well, I guess that answers the question of whether or not you approve of my decision then." She said on a chuckle as she wiped her cheek dry on her shoulder.
"That tongue of yours tickles something fierce you know that?"
He dipped his head and licked up her neck then nuzzled her.
"Cheeky." She stated, shaking her head as she rubbed his ears.

EXCERPT:  "Hello, slave. I've got you now."
As soon as he'd spoken, she'd gone bat shit crazy fighting against him. She'd grown stronger over the last weeks. She was going to be so much more fun to play with now. Despite her efforts, he kept her in a firm grip. Realizing he couldn't safely leave the house while that man was still here, he held her tight against his body while he breathed her scent in and listened for the front door.
As he heard the front door close, he smiled. Now it was just him and the two girls. This he could most definitely work with.
"I'm going to release your mouth now, slave. You scream and I'll shoot you then I'll take the woman you seem to like so much as my slave. Understand?" He growled his words into her ear. He'd felt her body stiffen when he'd threatened the woman. He waited for her to nod, which she did just as he heard footsteps come up the hallway toward them. He released her mouth and grabbed his pistol out of the back of his pants. He held it against the side of her temple and waited.
The door swung open slowly as he heard the woman begin to speak.
"Kelly, are you okay in here?"
Well, there you go. Her name is Kelly. Not that it mattered now. She would never escape him again.
"Oh, Kelly's just fine. For now." He said in a deep drawl as she entered the room.

AUTHOR INFORMATION: Khloe Wren started writing her first novel in high school, until it mysteriously disappeared from the family computer (her older brother was the lead suspect but nothing was ever proved). She didn't put pen to paper again after that for a number of years but she did keep reading. Khloe has always loved all things paranormal, sexy vampires, sultry shifters have always been her favourites. So when she picked up writing again, it seemed only natural to write paranormal romance.

Khloe lives in country South Australia with her incredibly patient husband and their two daughters.  When she's not sitting at her laptop writing, she's either spending time with family or friends, or feeding her addictions of reading paranormal romance, eating chocolate and drinking coke.
