Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting C.L. Marin! Welcome! I am so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

C.L.: I’d love to! First I have to say thank you for having me today. It really is an honor. I’m a graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry, and I work full-time as a dental hygienist. I have three children whom I couldn’t love more. They are so funny and smart. I also have the pleasure of being married to my best friend.  Hubs and I can’t wait for the last two of our kids to get through high school so we can ship them off to college, and start traveling more. And we tell them that….OFTEN! Yeah, that’s not very compelling evidence of my earlier statement about loving my children, eh? Not only do our kids know we love them but they know we love each other, and that’s important as well.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

C.L.: I’m currently writing MOTHER, book2 in the Tomes of the Authentic Witch series. Book 1, MAIDEN, was quite a learning experience so my promise to the readers who enjoy MAIDEN is that MOTHER will not take me nearly as long.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for either your current release or the WIP you are working on now?

C.L.: Maiden is loosely based on something called The Moodus Noises.  People can read more about the phenomenon here http://www.sacred-texts.com/ame/lol/lol160.htm  or Google it. MOTHER is inspired by a book written in the 1400’s called the Malleus Maleficarum. Translated it means Hammer of Witches. It’s a kind of manual used to identify, get confessions from, hold trials for, and kill witches. It’s responsible for ten’s of thousands of murders around Europe during that time.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite snack that like to munch on while writing? If so would you mind sharing what it is with us?

C.L.: HONEY ROASTED PEANUTS! That is all…

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

C.L.: My favorite scene is the alley scene. It’s a dark and creepy scene, and kind of my own nightmare situation. I spent a lot of time with my eyes closed envisioning the horror as if it were happening to me, and writing how I felt about it. I listened to music with sinister undertones like The Package by A Perfect Circle, and I wrote it late in the nights. Now, when I re-read it, I will still get that heart-pounding feeling I did when I wrote it.

Crystal: When you are not busy writing wonderful stories to keep us lucky readers entertained, what do you like to do? Do you have a hobby?

C.L.: I love to cook. If I’m not in someone’s mouth or typing on my laptop, you’ll find me watching Foodnetwork.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite background noise you like to having going while you write (TV, Music, kids playing)?

C.L.: I listen to music, and what type depends on the scene I’m writing. It’s almost always alternative. It ranges from Enya, Blue Foundation to Massive Attack, Perry Farrell. One of my characters was named after a Blue Foundation song entitled Sweep.

Crystal: Thank you for visiting today. It has been a pleasure to visit with you. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

C.L.: The pleasure was all mine. I would like to tell everyone THANK YOU. From the most sincerest place in my heart, I truly appreciate each and every person who might read my novel, and I hope you all love MAIDEN. There are a million realities from my life that I have woven into the pages, which makes it incredibly personal, (Professor Poop being one. Those who read it will understand lol) and I hope that shows in the story.

Excerpt:

We walked up on a small, cinderblock building. There was a plaque on the door facing us with the silhouette of a woman in a dress painted on it. Isaac turned the handle back and forth firmly. It was locked. His teeth bore down and ground together loudly.
“I just can’t catch a break today,” he whispered into the night.
Unexpectedly, and with unrealistic strength, he kicked the door in. Never before had I seen a blow delivered with such force. The hollow metal door fired open like a cannon, striking the wall behind it, discharging a deafening echo through the structure. Isaac held onto me like a treasure while he led me inside. Maybe it was the near-death experience, but I melted into his strong arms like any good damsel-in-distress would.
Isaac turned the water on, and it rushed into the basin hard, splashing droplets all over the counter. I stood like a zombie. Isaac hiked my shirtsleeves up to my forearms, trapping my bracelet in the bunched up fabric, but as he fumbled around with the dead weight of my limbs scrubbing at the dried blood stuck to them, the jewelry was knocked loose and fell to my wrist. Isaac went rigid at the sight of it but recovered fast to finish my arms before moving on to my forehead. We said nothing.
Anguish lodged in the wrinkle between his furrowed brows, now only inches from my face. Isaac wet down another wad of paper towel, and as his gentle strokes wiped across my face it brought a little life back to me. Even so, there were no romantic gazes or love-struck smiles being exchanged—only intense analysis from Isaac, and all-consuming fear from me.

About the Author:

C.L. Marin was born and raised in Lafayette Indiana. As a high school student she was more interested in her extra curricular activities like marching band, show choir, and being a diver on the swimming and diving team, than homework. In fact, C.L. Marin always said if her English Literature teacher ever found out she wrote a book she might die of a heart attack.
After high school she worked as a travel agent for ten years before going back to college and becoming a dental hygienist. It wasn’t an easy task as a single mom but once C.L. Marin has focused on a goal it isn’t often it goes unattained. Once she settled into her career there was finally time to enjoy some pleasure reading. She was spellbound to a popular young adult series but found herself unable to fill the void of the characters she’d lost after finishing it. Right then C.L. Marin made herself a new goal—write the novel she could not find! She wasn’t expecting it to be as hard to do, nor as rewarding, but it is truly her passion.
C.L. Marin still works full-time as a dental hygienist while she writes in the hours she is not sleeping. She is the mother of three wildly intelligent, and extraordinarily brilliant, children, and the wife of her high school sweetheart. They have an eleven-year-old narcoleptic black lab named Murphy Lee, a seven-year-old massively obese cat named Thai, a four-year-old spastic pit bull named Molly Jean, and a one-year-old cat named Tuttle.
