Excerpt:

She ran onto the foredeck and gawked wide-eyed at the pelicans’ crazy aerobatics. Her joyous abandon made him throw back his head and laugh. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt so bubbly inside.

A rogue wave rolled under the bow and tilted the deck precariously. She grabbed the rail on the cabin top to stop herself from falling.

“Maybe you’d better sit,” he called.

Sliding her hands along the lifelines, she made her way back to the cockpit. “You’re probably right.”

A few minutes later, Josie slipped off her cover-up. He feasted his eyes on the curves in her tiger-striped swimsuit and fought down an urge to engage the autopilot and sit by her side. The swell of her breasts tantalized him at the bottom of the deep V, and his blood heated.

“Care to try a few minutes at the wheel?” he asked, hoping she’d accept and come closer.

She stood. “Sure, but you’ll have to show me how.”

“Stand here in front of me.”

He positioned her with her hands on the wheel, spread his legs, and stood behind her. He leaned so his chest brushed the warm skin of her back. His cheek touched her silky hair, and he breathed in her sweet scent. Tamping down his runaway imagination, he swallowed and rested his hands on top of hers. “The idea is to keep the sails full and pulling. Right now we’re beating, that means sailing into the wind at a close enough angle to create a slightly rounded shape on the front

side of the sails.”

His mind focused on rounded shapes other than the sails, specifically the ones on her body. And as for what he really wanted to fill…

His fingers itched as she nodded her understanding and the sunshine sparkled in her hair. He lifted his eyes back to the bow. “The leading edge of the Genoa, the big sail in the bow, will luff, or flutter, if you steer too close to the wind. Turn a couple degrees to the left and you’ll see what I mean.”

Her soft buttocks shifted against him as she rotated the wheel slightly. The Genoa fluttered as predicted. So did his pulse. Kent tightened his grip on her hands and eased the boat back onto their original heading. “The sail’s luffing stops when your angle is back to a point where the wind is hitting at a proper angle.”

He moistened his lips. His reaction to her nearness wasn’t about to stop that quickly.

“That seems easy enough,” she said, her breath coming in short, nervous puffs. “So, how does the boat move ahead when the wind is blowing against us?
