Interview with Cheryl Robinson:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting Cheryl Robinson. Welcome, Cheryl! I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Cheryl: At this stage in my life, I’m very locked into creating an intriguing story world for readers. I write every day. If I’m not writing, I’m recording my audiobook. What excites me is knowing that as much as I love to write, there are readers yearning to get their hands on a book that’s a real page-turner, so when I write that’s how I keep myself motivated. I push myself to make the story as good as I can because I’m thinking about readers. I’m thinking not only about the ones who would rather read a book than watch TV, but also the ones who may not be into fiction but for whatever reason decide to give my book a shot. If someone decides to give Ex-Ray a shot, I don’t want them to be disappointed.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?
Cheryl: There are several scenes in Ex-Ray that I really like and have read several times over and still enjoy them, but I do have a favorite one, which is in Chapter 23. Unfortunately, I can’t say what it is, or I’d be spoiling it for potential readers.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for Ex-Ray?
Cheryl: The title came to me first, and then little by little the story started to develop. I knew more about Ray’s life than the other characters, and as I sat down to start writing about Ray, Sarita appeared, and then Miss King and the others. I never sat down and plotted out who the characters would be. I just let them appear.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?
CherylI’m finishing up the third book of the trilogy and preparing to send it to my editor.

Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?
Cheryl: I just write, and when I’m not writing, I think about my characters. I keep a recorder handy for the times when ideas pop into my head while I’m out and about. I also keep a journal for the times that I don’t want to type at a computer.

CrystalDid you have to do a lot of research for Ex-Ray or any other books?
Cheryl: I strive to make each novel as realistic as possible, but I also try to enjoy the writing process. I always research the places that I choose to set each scene in, or if there are any medical conditions mentioned, then I’ll also research that as well.

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?
Cheryl: There are so many authors that I love reading that I almost hate mentioning any because the list won’t be complete, which is why I usually avoid answering this type of question. But I absolutely love Bernice McFadden’s books. Terry McMillan’s books are always must-reads for me. Then also Tiffany D. Jackson, Chevy Stevens, Jodi Picoult, Electa Rome Parks, Cydney Rax, Walter Mosley, Kimberla Lawson Roby, and I could go on and on. I read across genres and I read whatever story line catches my eye. The author doesn’t have to be a well-established one. It all depends on my mood, and what story world I feel like entering.

CrystalIs there a genre you haven’t written that you would like to try?
Cheryl: I’d love to try to write a great thriller because I’m obsessed with Dateline, 48 Hours, and 20/20, so I think I have at least one good thriller in me.

About The Book:

In this journey into second-chance love, author Cheryl Robinson invites us to ponder whether we would rekindle a romance with someone who had broken a promise to forsake all others.

Meet Ray and Sarita Saint. In 1987, they pledged to love, honor, and cherish each other until death. When Ray goes missing a year later, Sarita wonders whether he’s dead or alive. While she was dreaming of their happily ever after, Ray was exploring greener pastures, a new relationship. Sarita—a virgin until marriage—took her vows seriously and believed Ray did, too. Instead, he left their marriage and their life in Detroit to reinvent himself. Sarita always held out hope that he would return one day. And he does. It’s twenty-seven years later, and Ray is determined to find his one true love. What he discovers has him question everything he thought he knew about Sarita, as well as himself.

  3. Enjoyed the interview. I love it that you write everyday or if not writing, you are working on your audio book! I work a secular job but pray that I become able to at least get 15-30 minutes of writing in each day! So inspiring and encouraging!
