BLURB:

What rules would you break for the one you love? What lies would you tell?

Three weeks before their wedding day, Nicola and Greg discover that they may have the same mother.

They met when Greg joined the San Francisco newspaper where Nicola is the travel editor. After six months, eager to start a life together and raise a family, they decide to marry.

When Nicola finally meets his family in Seattle, and mentions the circumstances of her adoption, Greg’s horrified mother is forced to reveal the shameful secret she has kept for 36 years.

As they struggle to deal with her revelation, their relationship is challenged and strained. If his mother’s suspicions are true, they will be forced into a devastating choice: break all of society’s rules and fight for their love, or break their hearts and give each other up.

It will be the greatest test their newfound love has faced – and their love may not survive.

EXCERPT:

Scene:  Greg and Nicola have gone to Las Vegas for a weekend, to try to forget what has happened.

“Oh my God,” she giggled. She had forgotten about the mirror. There they lay, two mounds on a heart-shaped bed, their faces no more than pale blobs against the shimmering satin.

As she turned towards him, he said, “Oh no you don’t! Take that look off your face and your hands off my person. I will gladly be seduced at another time, but today we have plans.”

Nicola sighed, and rolled over. So much for her last-minute ploy to stave off a day in a car looking at desert and rocks. It seemed that Death Valley’s charms were greater than hers – this morning, at least. Bright sunlight flooded in as Greg dragged back the curtains, and she stretched in its warmth.

“I can’t get over this view,” he said.

She twisted around to see him. He had dragged back not only the heavy velvet curtains but also the light privacy ones beneath them, and stood now before the window, looking out, his hands scratching his backside. “Did you notice a sign by that window, like the one in the bathtub room, that said no one could see in?” she asked.

Greg’s look of puzzlement changed to alarm. He leaped back, then sidled along the wall to where his bag lay on the floor, and fished out a pair of boxer shorts. “Stop laughing and get out of bed, before I come over there and drag you out,” he threatened.

She stuck her tongue out. “Bully. And if you think I’m getting out of this bed before you close those privacy curtains, think again.”

Review:

I was given the opportunity to read and review Too Close by Elizabeth Krall as part of this blog tour. I really enjoyed this book. It certainly kept me turning pages wondering what was going to happen to Nicola and Greg next. I really admired how this couple handled a very tricky situation together. When you are faced with a major obstacle that could stand between you and the love of our life just what are you willing to do for that love?

Nicola and Greg did their best to lead their lives with their hearts and try to forget they may have a major connection to each other besides they love they share. Greg's mother has to face her family with a secret that she has kept all these years. The secret very well may tear not only two people apart but could totally disrupt the lives of two whole families. I felt so such a loss for Mona as she was telling her story. She had been through so much, it was so nice to see what she was able to overcome to become the wonderful wife and mother Greg grew up knowing. Not only is there a lot of emotion and drama with Nicola and Greg, we also see the toll this mystery takes on both of their family's lives.

I loved how Ms. Krall wrote this story. She has done a wonderful job of showing a lot of options that could be placed in front of these two individuals that had come to love each other so much.

I'm not going to tell you how it turns out, because that is part of the thrill of reading the book, the wondering. I'm going to let you read it for yourself and find out if Nicola and Greg are related by blood.

I really did enjoy this story with all the drama and emotion involved. I enjoyed Ms. Krall's flow of writing and would enjoyreading more of her work in the future.
