INTERVIEW:
Crystal: Today as part of this Goddess Fish Promotions Virtual Book Tour, I have the chance to ask Esmae Browder a few questions. Welcome Esmae, I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?
Esmae: Thanks so much for having me on your blog today! I love meeting new people and readers! My name is Esmae Browder and I write erotic romance. Sometimes I write it well and sometimes...I write it even better! I’m a huge fan of Shakespeare (pretty sure he and I had a thing in another life) which is why my Naughty Shakespeare series is all about some of his most famous female characters.
Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for Ophelia’s Lessons?
Esmae: Ophelia’s Lessons is a modern day, prequel to Hamlet. I really love the Bard, but I have to say, his female characters leave something to be desired. Ophelia is a sweet, innocent girl in the play, but she’s also a complete door mat. Everyone walks all over her, and yet, her heart is crushed when Hamlet betrays her. I thought it would be interesting to come up with a back story for her where maybe she wasn’t as innocent as we all thought. I sort of liked the idea of her learning about sex and having hopes to use it to capture Hamlet’s heart.
Crystal: What are you currently working on?
Esmae: Currently, I’m working on an erotic tale that takes place in Pompeiii. It’s filled with steamy romance and set during the final weeks of the doomed town’s life. The story is about a case of mistaken identity between a noble woman and a prostitute. They switch places and find that their lives are changed in ways they couldn’t have imagined.
Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?
Esmae: I’m adamant about writing every day! I also split my time. The morning is for promotional work or research. The afternoon is for writing on whatever WIP I have. Sometimes the afternoon is also for naps...
Crystal: Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other?
Esmae: I have done a lot of research on Shakespeare and have studied the plays in depth that I’m working with. I think all of that has been invaluable when it comes to writing about these familiar characters. Being an erotica writer, I’ve read my fair share of the genre and that is some of the most pleasant research you can do! If you get all hot and bothered while reading some one's work, pay attention! They’re on to something and you should study their technique.
Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?
Esmae: In all honesty, it depends on my mood. I just read Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffen which is chick lit. However, I’m also deep in to the second book of Game of Thrones. I also got to meet many authors at the recent Romance Writers of America conference and I look forward to getting more familiar with their novels.
Crystal: Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?
Esmae: I’ve often thought it would be fun to try an erotic, science fiction novel set in space with werewolves. But I’m not a huge fan of werewolves. They’re very temperamental at certain times of the month and how would you manage that in space where the moon or moons is potentially a factor?

“You look fabulous.”
Portia’s eyes were filled with admiration as she surveyed her handiwork. She’d dressed Ophelia in a simple white dress. It fit to the curves of her body like a delicate glove, the silver zipper in the back running all the way down to the hemline. All a lover would have to do was pull the zipper down and her voluptuous body would be revealed.
“I like your hair up like that, too,” Portia said. “All those springy curls will create a wonderful effect during the heat of passion when he pulls it down.”
Astonished, Ophelia stared in the wide mirror above the couch.
Reflected back at her was a person she’d never seen before--someone who held a childlike innocence on her face that belied her twenty one years. Tucked into that innocence was the possibility of more.
“Well, what do you think?” Portia tapped her foot, impatient. “Do you like it or not?”
“I love it,” Ophelia whispered. “You’ve made me beautiful.”
“You were always beautiful darlin’,” Portia said, giving her arm a squeeze. “You just didn’t know it. And after tonight, you’ll be a little vixen. I have a feeling about you, Ophelia. Sex is going to change everything.”
There was a knock at the door.
Portia clapped her hands in excitement, while Ophelia bit her lip, her heart beating a mile a minute.
This was it.
What she’d been waiting for.
“Take a breath.” Portia instructed her. “It’s all going to be okay.”
With a small nod, Ophelia did as she was told.
“Horatio, how are you darlin’?” Portia opened the door, revealing a dark haired man. In the dim light of the hall, he seemed larger than life, his square shoulders framed in the doorway. “Come on in.”
Ophelia couldn’t help but let out a little gasp of surprise when he entered the room.
Horatio. Hamlet’s best friend. What could Portia be thinking by setting her up like this?
