#QandA ~ SECOND CHANCES by Marilyn Brant Lizzie Shane ~ @romancewriters @authorCassDean

 SECOND CHANCES

~*~*~*~*~
Q&A with Marilyn Brant, Lizzie Shane, and Cassandra Dean:

Q: Can you give a one-sentence summary of your story?

A: Marilyn Brant: When a twenty-something magazine writer visits her favorite indie bookstore, she doesn't expect to meet the hunky man of her dreams...but she does, and something about their brief encounter sparks her imagination and leads to an unanticipated reunion.

A: Lizzie Shane: In Something Old, Something New, when workaholic Nick returns home after over a decade to be the best man in an old friend's wedding, he is stunned to find the wedding planner is his high school sweetheart--and her daughter looks an awful lot like him...

A: Cassandra Dean: It is really good. Heh.
Proper answer: Ten years ago, the Earl of Edgington ruined Miss Sophia Hargrove...will she forgive him for a second chance at forever?

Q: Do you have a favorite snack that you like to munch on while writing? If so would you mind sharing what it is with us?

A: Marilyn Brant: I've been trying not to snack between meals and to simply drink lots of water instead...emphasis on the word *trying* - LOL. But I love chocolate in all forms. Even bad chocolate is good chocolate when I'm craving a taste. So, if I really need a boost while writing, I'll reach for a homemade (semi-healthy!) oatmeal brownie, a handful of chocolate-covered raisins, or a hot cup of cocoa.

A: Lizzie Shane:  I don't know if it qualifies as a snack, but Diet Coke is my writing addiction. Must. Have.  Other than that, I try to avoid keeping extra food around me while I'm writing because if my brain is inside the book I can go through an entire box of wheat thins (or an entire bag of jelly beans) without even realizing I'm eating.

A: Cassandra Dean:  Not unless you count beer?
I tend to fit my writing in around Life and Other Annoyances, so there's no snacking as such. Water for hydration (and occasionally beer when I want to tear my hair out), but that's about it.

Q: When you are not busy writing wonderful stories to keep us lucky readers entertained, what do you like to do? Do you have a hobby?

A: Marilyn Brant: I truly enjoy spending time with my husband and our son, going on long walks/drives with them or, when we can, taking trips together. Music has always been one of my favorite pastimes, though. I play piano and guitar (neither very well, but I'm enthusiastic) and I love to listen to all styles of music. I'm a big fan of eighties hair bands, Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, and songs of any era with a catchy beat. I sing with gleeful abandon in the car.

A: Lizzie Shane: I *love* travel.  Whether it's international or just around the block, I'm a huge fan of exploring new places.  I'm also (little known fact) a fairly decent swing dancer and have been known to occasionally take flying trapeze lessons. (Full disclosure: I am terrible at the trapeze.)

A: Cassandra Dean: I like to cook, hang out with friends and family, and I have a sewing machine that I keep meaning to use.

Q: Do you have a favorite background noise you like to having going while you write (TV, Music, kids playing)?

A: Marilyn Brant: hhh, I wish I could write with background noises but, alas, I need silence for both drafting and revising. It's one of the reasons I tend to write best late, late at night when everyone is asleep!

A: Lizzie Shane: I can't listen to music while I'm writing or the lyrics pass through my fingers and insert themselves into the middle of my sentences, but I do love having a buzz of conversation in the background that I can completely ignore.  I'm a big fan of taking my computer out to a lunch spot (with bottomless Diet Coke) and hunkering in the corner with my laptop, tuning everything out.

A: Cassandra Dean: When I write at home, I'll often have TV playing in the background, even if I don't pay attention to it. When I'm out and about, I'll listen to music to drown out distracting noise. Some stories demand certain songs (I wrote Teach Me listing to 'Songs of Faith and Devotion by Depeche Mode' on repeat), but generally it's a mix of whatever I'm currently enjoying. I am slightlyobsessed with Hamilton: An American Musical at the moment, but I can't listen to that as I write as I get distracted by Lin-Manuel Miranda's amazing lyrics and find myself listening to the poetry of his words rather than writing!
