Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting Annette Oppenlander. Welcome Annette! I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Annette: Hi, I’m excited to be here. A bit of background, I grew up in Germany and moved to the U.S. in 1987 where I met my husband. We’ve been married 28 years and have fraternal twins (24) and a son (27). Of course, I must mention my old mutt, Mocha, who insisted on being roommates in my home office.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Annette: From chapter two…

I heard more rustling. Louder now. Not from the men, but from the woods behind me. My knees buckled and I was vaguely aware of the thudding sound I’d made. I had to figure out what had just happened, retrace my steps. Where was my room? My mind churned as I scanned the ground for some sign of home, something familiar.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the bearded thug turn his head. Ducking behind a hazelnut bush, I squinted through the leaves. The thug had raised his sword and stepped toward my hiding place.
I crouched lower, my ears filled with the pounding of my own heartbeat. Rough laughter came from the other two riders. Despite my panic I caught a glimpse of them poking their swords at the injured man’s shoulder. I smelled their stench—and the wounded man’s fear.
The bearded thug continued in my direction. Sunlight bounced off the edge of his blade. He took another step, scanning, listening. I forced my shaking body to be absolutely still. This had to be some kind of challenge in the game.
The man kept coming. Twenty feet. Everything about him looked menacing: his eyes the color of mud, his razor-sharp sword wide as a hand. Fifteen feet. I held my breath.
A scream rang out.
“Have mercy, My Lords,” the bleeding man cried. He was kneeling now, waiving his good arm in a pleading gesture. “I beg you,” he wailed.
I lowered my gaze. Somewhere I’d read that the white of a man’s eyes could give you away. Keeping my lids half-closed, I peeked through the leaves once more. The thug was ten feet away. Close up he looked worse, a brute with arms the size of my thighs, his chest covered in leather and wide as a barrel. Despite his size he had the soundless walk of a stalking animal. I watched with paralyzed fascination. Any second I’d be discovered, but all I managed was to shove my hands into my jeans pockets to keep them from trembling. It’s a computer game, my brain screamed. It’s real, my gut argued.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for “Escape from the Past: The Duke’s Wrath?”

Annette: In 2012 I visited the ruins of Castle Hanstein in Thuringia, Germany. It’s an amazing place high up on a mountaintop with breathtaking views of the valleys. As I walked through the old torn buildings the voices in my head began to chatter. I know how that sounds, but it was this conviction that I had to write about the castle. Inside one of the rooms I read about a famous knight who’d lived there in the late Middle Ages and feuded with a duke over a beautiful woman. At the time I was often annoyed by my boys who are avid gamers and don’t mind spending all night in front of their computers. Somehow putting a gamer into the story made sense.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Annette: I envision being a lifelong author. I love the process of writing, editing and researching. I love looking for new ideas and creating exciting stories. Book two in the trilogy, “Escape from the Past: The Kid” will be released in February 2016 and I just completed the third and last book. My next project will be about two teens surviving WW2 in Germany. It’s sort of a love story against the odds and based on true events/characters. I’m also still working on a story about a farm boy and his slave friend who are torn apart by the American Civil War.

Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Annette: I am very lucky that I don’t have to go to a job, so I sit in my home office with the door closed because I find noise of any kind distracting. I typically write in the morning, especially when I’m working on a first draft. This first creation is always the hardest, taking the most brainpower. Sometimes I only write a page, sometimes ten. I struggle most with first chapters because so much is set up in it. I’ve learned to just ‘slop’ it down initially without the editor sitting on my shoulder whispering criticism.

In the afternoons I edit and market.

Crystal: Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Annette: Writing historical fiction requires a fair amount of research. I was lucky to find a collection of stories assembled by a Hanstein descendant. This book also contained a family tree and original entries from city annals. I also put much time into learning about the medieval way of life and the starkly contrasting experiences of peasants and lords.

One of the things I found fascinating is the use of spices in medieval dishes. To impress their guests, Lords imported expensive spices from the orient, including saffron, pepper and nutmeg. Cooks used them in such quantity that our present day tongues would be unable to tolerate the flavors. Many dishes were colored, meats mashed and shaped into sculptures, so no guest could tell what they were.

Crystal:  Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Annette: James Alexander Thom is my favorite historical fiction author. J.R.R. Tolkien is, of course, the master of storytelling. I’ve read the “Lord of the Rings” five or six times and still marvel at his craft. You’re hooked from page one. I love Stephen King’s “On Writing” because it’s not just dry instruction. King teaches you more of a feel for what works and tells it how it is. I think over the years many writers have inspired my writing. They all melded into my subconscious and out of it I pull my own stories.

Crystal: Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Annette: I may try my hands at ‘early reader’ children’s books and maybe one day a thriller. Right now I have two novels waiting to be written/finished and a couple more ideas. Whether I go through with a different genre may depend on how well these novels do and what new ideas spring up in the meantime.

Thank you very much for hosting me!

BLURB:

When fifteen-year old nerd and gamer Max Anderson thinks he’s sneaking a preview of an unpublished video game, he doesn’t realize that 1) He’s been secretly chosen as a beta, an experimental test player. 2) He’s playing the ultimate history game, transporting him into the actual past: anywhere and anytime. And 3) Survival is optional: To return home he must decipher the game’s rules and complete its missions—if he lives long enough. To fail means to stay in the past—forever.

Now Max is trapped in medieval Germany, unprepared and clueless. It is 1471 and he quickly learns that being an outcast may cost him his head. Especially after rescuing a beautiful peasant girl from a deadly infection and thus provoking sinister wannabe duke Ott. EXCERPT:

“Mutter, I brought someone.” Bero slumped on the bench, scanning the table. I stood unmoving. Two tallow lamps flickered in earthen pots, barely making a dent into the gloom. The thick mixture of smoke, dust and body odor was worse. Disgusted, I rubbed my nose. It didn’t do any good.

The left side of the ceiling hung so low that I easily touched it with my hand. The other half was hidden by dense smoke. A scrawny fire smoldered in a stone hearth along the back wall. In front of it stood a woman of indefinable age, stirring a cast-iron pot.

“You’re late,” she said without turning. “Next time we eat without you.”

“I told you she’s mad,” said the girl who’d been shelling beans earlier.

“Hush, Adela,” the mother shot back. I looked back and forth between them, struggling to follow the weird speech while identifying the smell emanating from the pot. Nothing came to mind. Despite the terrible stench in the house, my stomach gurgled in anticipation.

“Nay, I was late because of this lad,” Bero said. “He needs shelter for tonight.”

At last, the mother turned around. Even in the gloom I could tell that she was shocked, maybe scared, her eyes blackish pools in the haggard face. She carefully placed the ladle on a stone plate and stepped closer—her eyes now squinting, scrutinizing. I wanted to bolt. A disgusting odor enveloped me. While Bero smelled of earth and pigs, the woman reeked of sweat and something sour. I tried breathing shallow breaths, thinking I should just leave and sleep outside. But then I thought of the rustling in the woods, the evil riders wielding their swords— worse, how clueless I felt.

$10 Evernight Teen Gift Card will be given away to one randomly chosen winner. Please use the RaffleCopter below to enter. Remember you may increase your chances of winning by visiting the other tour stops. You may find those locations here.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~
 Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting Melissa Frost. Welcome Melissa! I'm so happy to have you here today.  Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Melissa: I live near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and fans of my Dating Tutor series surely realize that I am a sports fanatic. I’m a huge Penguins fan. My love for hockey made it enticing to write my rough and tough sports guys like Matt and Alec in the series.
I am also a new mother! My daughter Adalynn just hit the three month mark last weekend. She and my son Marshall are a total blessing. I couldn’t imagine life without them.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Melissa: In this story, I love the scene where Andi sees Devon turn into a werewolf for the first time. It’s that magical moment when everything in her life finally falls into place. But I also enjoyed the scene where Devon took her to the park and made Andi try to catch squirrels with her bare hands. That was such a silly, fun scene.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for your current release?

Melissa: I’m sure the idea of adoption and the “system” were in my head because my husband and I were looking to take in a child whose circumstances were less unfortunate than ours. We attended many parenting classes and learned a great deal about the foster care system. That new knowledge served to be the base and start of this story. And I just had this vision of the first scene with Devon — him standing all cool and sexy in the snow as he stood on the sidewalk waiting for her. The rest just fell into place.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Melissa: I just finished up the fourth installment of my Dating Tutor series. This one will be through Sasha’s point of view. I’m working on going through my own personal edits before I submit it to Evernight Teen. Keep your fingers crossed!

Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Melissa: With two kids, I laugh at the idea of routine! I write when I can and hope to achieve even just a little bit each day. Nap times are usually my go time.

Crystal: Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Melissa: I didn’t do much research for this story. As I mentioned, I was already taking the parenting classes, so it was unintentional research.  I did write a book titled ‘12’ under the name Melissa Hosack that I had to do a great deal of research for. It was about the Mayans end of the world prediction. My husband did a lot of the research for me. We looked through all of the things that could “potentially” happen and I hashed them all out while using proper time zones and information about different cities all around the world. A lot of work went into that one.

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Melissa: I have a multitude of authors that I love to read. My current favorite is the White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter. I read the first book in the series a few months ago (Alice in Zombieland) and I could not put it down. I tore through the first two books in the series. I took a break to read A Dance of Dragons (Game of Thrones) by George R. R. Martin, but I look forward to getting back to Alice!

Crystal: Is there any genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Melissa: I feel like I’m very diverse in my writing. I’ve done young adult, romance, paranormal, action/adventure, and horror. I haven’t written a full-out historical piece. I’ve had pieces of history in books in series with vampires, but never something set in that timeline. I think it would be fun to write, but it would take a lot of research to make sure I got everything correct.

Excerpt:

“I’m still not convinced.” She informed him of this in a tone that stated quite clearly
she thought him to be a liar. “You’ll have to try harder than that.”
At her skepticism, Devon gave a grin that could only be described as devilish.
Climbing to his feet, he yanked the zipper down on his coat and shrugged out of
it. He tossed the coat into the snow before lifting his shirt over his head.
As if they had a mind of their own, her eyes drank in the sight of his bare chest. He was
amazingly sculpted, his arm muscles bunching with every movement. His abs, which
appeared rock solid, mirrored the action. He even had an interesting scar along
his left shoulder that only seemed to add to his sex appeal. She cleared her
throat uncomfortably, willing her body to settle down. She didn’t usually get
so affected by boys.
When his hands went to his belt buckle and began unfastening it, she gave a squeak of
objection. “What are you doing? Stop taking your clothes off!”
He grinned over at her. “You wanted to see a werewolf, didn’t you? I’m just obliging.”
“But … but…”
He stripped out of his jeans with ease. “Werewolves aren’t freaked out by nudity, Andi. If you remembered even the slightest bit about your history, you would know that.”
As his briefs came down, her eyes lifted hurriedly to the sky. She gazed at the clouds
as if they were the most intriguing thing in the entire world. Which was a
complete farce. Standing before her was the first naked boy she’d ever been in
the presence of. She desperately wanted to sneak a peek, yet she was too
freaked out by the idea to even lower her gaze a fraction of an inch.
“Sheesh, you’re such a human,” Devon said in complaint. “You’re such a prude that you’re about to miss all the fun.”
Andi scowled, but her gaze was still lifted skyward so she had no idea if he saw her
or not. As she stood awkwardly gazing at the clouds, she realized how absolutely absurd this situation was. She was standing in the entrance to a public park. With a naked boy. In the snow.
“This is so—” Her protests broke off as an odd popping sound filled the air. She couldn’t quite place it, but it felt so familiar. It was a noise she’d heard before, but
she couldn’t remember where.
Her eyes lowered to Devon’s bare shoulders to find them shifting and cracking. His flesh moved in such an unnatural way, she nearly cried out in alarm. Her own hand
pressing to her lips was the only thing that stopped the sound from escaping.
She watched with morbid fascination as Devon’s body repositioned and changed itself into something new. Before her very eyes, his entire being altered, and he
transformed into the shape of a wolf. It took no more than a minute or two, but
the time seemed to stretch on forever.
She witnessed soft puffs of cream fur appear that seemed to burst right out of his
skin. His fingers elongated, the nails growing out into sharp claws. The urge to run lasted a mere second before she was stepping forward in fascination.
Her fingers outstretched toward the furry muzzle that had once been Devon’s nose. She
wasn’t frightened by him in the least. How could she be? He was the wolf! The one she’d seen outside the school staring into her classroom window.
She knew instantly he’d been there for her, watching over her as he awaited their reunion. She bet he had seen it playing out quite differently. Closing her eyes, she allowed her fingers to brush over the soft fur between his ears.
The sensation of it shook her to the core. Her body remembered it, recalled it like
it was yesterday. Werewolf fur. She wasn’t sure if it was his fur in particular that felt so much like home, or if it was werewolf fur in general. Either way, it startled her just how much she longed to be near him in that moment.
Her eyes snapped open, and she stumbled back, unsteady on her feet. This was far too
much to absorb in one afternoon. Her mind was racing, and she didn’t even know
where to begin. As a result, she simply plopped down into the snow, stunned.

Blind Chess

Cristelle Comby will be awarding all four books of the series, signed by the author (International Giveaway) to a randomly drawn winner during the tour. Please use the RaffleCopter below to enter. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting Cristelle Comby. Welcome Cristelle! I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Cristelle: Well, what can I say, I’m a thirty something Swiss writer. I’m an overall nice girl, with an uncomplicated life and an (healthy) addiction to chocolate (it’s in the genes). I’m the writer of the Neve & Egan cases, a series of novels centred on a duo of Private Investigators in London.

Crystal:  Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Cristelle: I love the ending of Blind Chess, when Neve and Egan are finally reunited. I spend quite some time editing it, until I got the tone right.

Crystal:  Where did you come up with the idea for Blind Chess?

Cristelle: It is the direct continuation of Danse Macabre, book three of the Neve & Egan cases. It picks up where the other left off, with Neve badly wounded and in the hospital. Egan’s on his own and he has to pick up the mantle and investigate alone.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Cristelle: I’m taking a break from this series and working on something new. I’m trying out a new genre, Urban Fantasy and mixing in a little bit of Greek Mythology. It’s shaping up nicely.

Crystal:  Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Cristelle: Yes, I’m very meticulous about outlining. I spend a long time on it; it helps me have a clear vision of where the story’s going. I only start writing when the outline’s finished – it’s a personal rule of mine.

Crystal:  Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Cristelle: I’ve been to London a couple of times, locations scouting. This year I tried walking about the Tube with my eyes closed (to enact a scene from the book). It was a little scary and totally surreal. I felt like a fish, swimming in a bank of fishes. I just followed to current and let it carry me in the right direction.

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Cristelle: Jim Butcher, his Dresden Files series is a personal favourite. I also love Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles and Brandon Sanderson’s Reckoners series. My greatest discovery of 2015 was A. G. Riddle’s Departure.

Crystal:  Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Cristelle: Urban Fantasy which is a favourite of mine and I’m trying it out right now. I love this genre. It’s the ‘it’s so close to real life, it could happen’ genre. Real-life with a sprinkle of supernatural.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
BLURB:

It is supposed to be Neve and Egan. Two partners, a team. What happens when a member of this team of Private Investigators is shot, prognosis unknown?

As Alexandra Neve lays comatose and defenceless, Ashford Egan must take on their enemy alone, and find the cagiest criminal Scotland Yard has seen in decades. Determined to succeed, Egan will stop at nothing. He’ll hit on married women, plant bugs, hire hitmen. And he’ll do it all blind, which makes things ten times as difficult.

Double-crossed by friends, convinced there is corruption in those sworn to uphold the law, Egan is forced to form unlikely alliances as he moves forward in a game that requires skills, nerves of steel, and a willingness to play against all odds.

EXCERPT:

The journey to the Lantesks’ home gives me time to weigh my options. There are two ways to play this: continue to pretend to be Mr. Bono, the nice accountant, and flirt some information out of Mrs Lantesk; or use the weapon in my pocket and approach the situation in a considerably less charming manner.

I entertain the possibilities of option one while I walk up the main street, but decide on option two as I turn into the Lantesks’ drive. I don’t have time to be gentle anymore; I can’t afford it.

I tighten my grip on the weapon, straighten my back and force a resolve I don’t feel onto my face.

Car doors are being slammed in the distance as the first commuters start their daily routines. The hour is still early though, and the chances I’ve been seen are slim. The wind keeps up its assault as I take the last steps towards the house, gun in hand, safety catch on.

I smile as I think of DI Langford. He’d have a fit if he could see me. So far, I am only a thief on the run, but I am about to add a few more charges to my rap sheet. ‘Eyes on the prize,’ I remind myself as I reach for the doorbell.

My finger is inches away from it when I hear the gravel screech behind me. Someone is walking up to me. No, I mentally correct myself instants later—several individuals. I count at least two pairs of feet.

This isn’t good. I turn around, extend my weapon, finger on the trigger, as I do my best to guess where to aim.

The weapon is kicked out of my hand in a matter of seconds. I can’t even understand how. All I know is that my fingers hurt, my wrist feels like it is broken, and the weapon has tumbled to the gravel at least a foot away on my right.

An instant later, someone’s fist hits me in the shoulder. It sends me tumbling backwards and I hit the Lantesks’ house wall violently. My cane flies out of my hand and I feel some of the wall plaster come loose upon impact. It crumbles to dust under my fingers as I try to get back up on my feet.

by Julie Mulhern

Julie Mulhern will be awarding $20 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner during the tour. Please use the RaffleCopter below to enter. Remember you may increase your chances of winning by visiting the other tour stops. Those locations may be found here

~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the pleasure of hosting Julie Mulhern. Welcome Julie! I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Julie: Like my heroine, Ellison Russell, I am from Kansas City, Missouri. Like my heroine, I am the personal maid of an evil genius masquerading as a Weimaraner. Unlike my heroine, I am happily married.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Kizzi roused herself enough to try to pat her daughter’s knee. She missed. For one ephemeral instant she leaned forward in space and hung there—a lob shot in tennis, a perfect chip in golf. In the next heartbeat, she fell, wedging herself between the brass coffee table and the couch with her glass still firmly gripped in her hand. The contents sloshed, but not a single drop spilled.
I gasped. CeCe did too. We both rose from our chairs.
Not Alice. She crouched. “Oh, Mother. How could you?”
I wondered the same thing and more. How could Kizzi let Alice intrude on CeCe’s grief? How could Kizzi come here and get sauced? How could she not see that her daughter was disturbed?
With an ease that spoke of heart-breaking regularity, Alice shoved her forearms beneath Kizzi’s armpits then stood, lifting her mother with her. When they were both standing, Alice pushed her mother back onto the couch then offered CeCe and me an apologetic smile. “Mother has a problem with balance.”
Mother had a problem with gin.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for Guaranteed to Bleed?

Julie: Guaranteed is the second book in the Country Club Murders series. Don’t you love the title? A friend who remembered how madras fabric used to be “guaranteed to bleed” suggested it.

Crystal:  What are you currently working on?

Julie: I am currently working on book four of the Country Club Murders. It is scheduled to release in October. Book three, Clouds in my Coffee, releases on May 10th

Crystal:  Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Julie:  I roll out of bed early—so, so early—every morning, let the evil genius out in the backyard, push the button on the coffee maker, and sit down at the kitchen table to write.

Crystal:  Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Julie: I do a fair amount of researching the 70s which is such fun. I’ve even researched the phrase “guaranteed to bleed”. Brooks Brothers bought 10,000 yards of madras and started making clothes. Their customers complained about the fabric bleeding and fading. In an inspired marketing maneuver, they declared their fabric was “guaranteed to bleed”.

Crystal:  Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Julie: I adore Gretchen Archer, Susan Boyer, and Phoebe Fox.

Crystal:  Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Julie: I’m incredibly happy writing mysteries and I’ve signed a contract for an additional six country club murders so it looks as if I’ll be writing what I love for quite a while.

EXCERPT:

I hobbled up the long, bricked walkway that led to CeCe Lowell’s door. The Parisian sales girl had sniffed and told me that pain was a small price for beauty. My feet disagreed. That the navy of my pumps exactly matched the navy of my dress was of little import to toes crammed into pointy shoes. They’d stopped whispering their discontent. They were yelling.

I ignored them and rang the bell.

CeCe answered it herself.

The poor woman looked as if she hadn’t slept. She also looked disappointed, almost as if she was expecting someone else. It was a fleeting impression. One I dismissed when she grabbed my good wrist and pulled me into a hug.

She released me. “Thank you for coming,”

“I tried to call.” Five times over the course of an hour I’d received a busy signal. Then the need to find the name of the girl Bobby had loved and to offer CeCe my condolences had compelled me to don my too-tight shoes and drive to her home.

“I left it off the hook.” She rubbed her red-rimmed eyes. “She kept answering it.”

Who? One of CeCe’s sisters? “If now is a bad time, I can come back later.”

“No!” She snatched at my wrist again. “I mean no, of course not. I’m glad you’re here. Come in. May I offer you coffee?” She led me toward the living room.

Something was off. Wrong. Grief thicker than fog wrapped around her yet she seemed manic, desperate. I understood why when I crossed the threshold into CeCe’s living room.

Kizzi and Alice Standish shared a flowered couch.

Kizzi lived behind a curtain sewn from dry gin martinis. Her daughter Alice was nuttier than the little bowls of mixed almonds and cashews the club puts out for bridge snacks. Word on the golf course was that Howard Standish was considering having them both committed—to different facilities, of course.

#Interview - Blow by Blow By Kate Hill

Blow by Blow
By Kate Hill
 ~*~*~*~*~*~
Interview:

Crystal: Today I have the honor of hosting Kate Hill. Welcome Kate! I'm so excited to have you join us today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Kate: Thank you for having me here today. I've been writing romance for over twenty years. Most of my stories are erotic, but I have also written some traditional stories. My favorite subgenres are paranormal and historical. I especially love writing about vampires.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Kate: At the moment I'm working on the last story in my Scarlet Nights vampire series that's with Changeling Press. I'm also working on the second story in a romantic suspense series set in Victorian London.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for for either your current release or your current WIP?

Kate:  My recent release, Blow by Blow, came about while I was plotting a story about the vigilante who appears in the book. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that Valentin and Theo's story needed to come first.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite snack that like to munch on while writing? If so would you mind sharing what it is with us?

Kate: Honestly, I can't eat and write at the same time. When I'm writing, I like to focus on the story. For breaks in between, though, I love fruit, yogurt and peanut butter.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Kate:  This scene is from my recent release, Blow by Blow. In this story, a hunky former heavyweight champ and an ass-kicking beauty fight for their lives and their love in a futuristic world of MMA.

"Oh wow. Where did these come from," Theo said, squatting by the pot. He let go of his bags and reached for the attached florist's card. He read it, smiled, rose, and slipped his arms around Valentin's neck. "Thank you."

Valentin hugged him back a bit awkwardly since grocery bags filled his hands. "Didn't know what else to give you as a welcome gift."

"I love blueberries."

"Kinda figured when you ate half my supply during breakfast yesterday morning."

Theo stepped back, his hands still cupping Valentin's neck. "Are you saying I'm a blueberry hog? Don't answer that. Come on." Theo opened the door, picked up his grocery bags, and stepped inside, Valentin close behind him.

They were quite hungry, so after putting away Theo's shopping, they sat down to lunch. When they finished, Theo did some quick housecleaning, not that he had much to do. The house was impeccable. Debra and her parents obviously took a lot of pride in their property. Valentin volunteered to help. While Valentin tidied up the lunch mess and opened the windows in the house to let in the fresh spring air, Theo cleaned the bathroom and unpacked his belongings.

"I know this hasn't been much of a date so far," Theo said.

He and Valentin stood in the bedroom where Theo was about to put the new sheets he'd bought on the bed.

"Fine with me," Valentin said, helping Theo tuck in the fitted sheet. They both reached for the top sheet at the same time and Valentin closed his hand over Theo's. He tugged Theo closer.

Even with the thick heels on his boots, Theo still had to tilt his face up to meet Valentin's gaze. Valentin dipped his head toward Theo to cover his mouth with a kiss.

Closing his eyes, Theo surrendered. He pressed even closer to Valentin.

Crystal: When you are not busy writing wonderful stories to keep us lucky readers entertained, what do you like to do? Do you have a hobby?

Kate:  I love to work out, read and watch horror movies.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite background noise you like to having going while you write (TV, Music, kids playing)?

Kate:  When I'm writing a first draft, I enjoy listening to music that fits the tone of the story, but when I'm working on edits, I prefer quiet.

Crystal: Thanks for visiting. It has been a pleasure having you visit today. Can you think of anything else you would like to share with us today?

Kate:  I love to connect with readers, so please feel free to stop by my website, blogs and social media. Links to everything can be found at http://www.kate-hill.com. Thank you so much for having me as a guest, Crystal!
