#Review - Reason to Wed By Heather Boyd ~ The Distinguished Rogues

As some of you may know I completely adore Heather Boyd's books. I've loved every one of her books that I have read and tend to devour them in hours. This lady has a talent writing historical regency era romances that is just unbelievably awesome. Reason to Wed may have just jumped to first place in my favorite Heather Boyd book list. 

I have to admit I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I have been looking forward to hearing more about Esme since An Improper Proposal. Esme is not the typical heroine. She's a touch older than the usual heroine, she's a widow, and she likes to explore her sexual appetite. She is an independent strong willed lady with charisma and charm that is all her own. Her relationship with Richard Hill, the Earl of Windermere is bump at the best. These two have a way of setting each other off and at first it's not in the good way. The sparks of frustration accidentally turn in to sparks of passion. 

Richard Hill, the Earl of Windermere  is handsome, charming, and if you ask Esme a little on the conceited side. His goal for the season is to find a wife that can quickly produce an heir. However when sparks fly with Esme he puts finding a proper wife to bare his children on hold. He and Esme have a smoldering, steaming, hot relationship that is totally unexpected to both of them.

I really enjoyed reading about Esme and Richard. Their story is full of chemistry, hot and steamy scenes. plenty of emotion (grab some Kleenex, you may find a few tears streaming down your cheeks), drama, and circumstances that try to stand in their way of happily ever after together. 

Overall this is one fabulous story that is well written with incredibly interesting characters that kept me spellbound from page one all the way through to the last page. This is part of The Distinguished Rogues Series but will stand alone just fine. If you have read An improper Proposal you will enjoy catching up with Esme and Richard again. You will not be missing anything pertinent if you haven't read the previous books. They are really good reads though so you may want to grab them up now too! 

Reason to Wed is the perfect book to warm up a cold winter evening. Grab your copy, find a comfy place to read, and get ready to devour a wonderful historical romance in the style that only Heather Boyd can provide. 

Normally you really should not judge a book by it's cover but this cover is on the spot. The couple have that smoldering hot look that perfectly fit Esme and Richard. When the cover is just as awesome as the story inside I figure it's OK to judge the book by the cover then.

“How much experience do you have exactly?”
“Three kisses,” she answered immediately. “I know there are any number of degrees to a lady’s experience but Esme assures me a woman should be able to tell that the man she is with has the necessary skills to deserve her affections by the expertise of his kiss.”
“You’re a complete innocent,” he choked out. Gods, three kisses was nothing. She was contemplating a life well beyond the pale and had no idea of what changes would come in her life as a mistress.
“Yes.” She lifted her chin proudly. “But I’d like not to be ignorant, too.”
He rubbed his jaw, thinking hard of a way to turn her inexperience to his advantage. If he could distract her from her plan of finding a protector she might yet find a man to marry. A few poorly executed kisses wouldn’t bring her too much harm as long as no one learned of them. “Very well.”
Her mouth fell open.
He grinned at her shock. “I will be the one to answer your questions about intimacy on the condition you tell no one that you wish to be a mistress, for the time being. I must have your promise that this will be our secret. I won’t be a party to your ruin.”
“And you’ll teach me what I need to know, too?”
He paused. An innocent bride was expected to know very little on her wedding night. He would be careful of what he taught her. “Yes.”
“I do promise.” She drew closer. “Show me.”
“You want me to kiss you now? Here?” He glanced around wildly, hoping Lady Heathcote might be on the verge of rejoining them. However he heard not one sound beyond Iris’s rushed breath. When he’d imagined her education, he’d not envisaged undertaking it in Lady Heathcote’s drawing room where anyone might walk in.
Iris, however, stared up at him seriously. “Well, where else might be as private as this? If we were to sneak away at a ball, someone might see us. If we were to meet at a private residence you own, that too would be fraught with the risk of detection. Esme would not have left us alone had she not wanted me to continue my inquiries with you under her roof.”
“I see your point.” Now was indeed the perfect moment. He could kiss Iris and no one would know, and then tomorrow night she’d hopefully forget all about these ridiculous lessons and return to a search for a suitable husband.
Decision made, he gripped her shoulders and pressed his lips to hers in a smacking kiss that ended before it truly began.
When he released her and stood back, she stared at him in disapproval. “I thought you’d be better at kissing than that.”

An Improper Proposal by Heather Boyd ~ The Distinguished Rogues #6 ~ Review

As some of you may know Heather Boyd is one of my very favorite authors. This lady has talent and every one of her books show it. I am always so anxious to get my hands on her next release that I devour it in no time.

I have had the pleasure of reading three books in the Distinguished Rogues series and I have adored them all. Ms. Boyd has a great voice for writing a historical romance. I found myself completely engrossed in this story from page one. My favorite place to read is the bathtub.While reading this book one night my husband about had to remove this book from my hands.I could NOT put it down. I was too engrossed in Iris and Martin's story to care that it was getting late.

Iris Hedley is fiercely protective of her father and will do anything to help keep him safe.  Her father is in a debtors prison with a massive amount of debt that he accumulated. She was from a well to do family and lost all of the comforts of life. She also lost most of her so called "friends". I could not help but feel a connection to this girl. She is strong, very independent and so brave!   She lives in fear of something happening to her father in prison. She also fears the nasty people that have forced  her to do things she really doesn't want to do.  This poor girl has been through so much. Yet in some ways she has a sweet innocence that is adoring. 

I loved how her friend Esme stands by her and supports her decisions while trying to lead her in the right direction. Esme is the exact kind of friend that Iris has needed to help her in life. She supports Iris no matter what the situation. She is also very protective of Iris. Every lady needs a wonderful friend in her life. I really enjoyed the bond between Esme and Iris. 

Martin Andrews, the Earl of Louth is a gentleman that Iris feels she can ask intimate questions. I have to say I loved some of his reactions to Iris' questions. Marin has no intention of falling for Iris when he sets out to change her mind about leading the life of a mistress.  When left alone for long the attraction between these two is quite combustible. Their lessons lead to some steamy scenes.  When they try to fight their feelings for each other things keep drawing them together. 


Martin's artistic cousin, Whitney lives with him. She is quite the lady. She has a fun sense of humor and also doesn't mind telling everyone exactly what she thinks. I am anxious to see if this spunky lady has a story to tell. 

Once again Heather Boyd has created incredibly interesting characters with very fascinating stories to tell. Both Iris and Martin have a few things they need to share with each other. The secrets are revealed as their relationship unfolds. I really enjoyed watching these two get to know each other. Martin's lessons for Iris are fun yet hot. 

There is plenty of drama in this story that had me flipping pages quickly. I could not wait to see how Iris was going to find her way out of the messy and dangerous situation she finds herself in. There is some drama, suspense, a little mystery, interesting secrets, some sweet gestures, a nice friends to romance story, and a few steamy scenes. In my book that makes this book perfect! 

An Improper Proposal is part of The Distinguished Rogues series. You do not have to have read the previous books in this series first. This series is great read either together or as a stand alone. If you have read the previous books you will find some familiar friends from the previous books visiting at the balls and other functions. That is one of the reasons I love series. I love catching up with old friends to see how they are doing and what they have been up to. 

Ms. Boyd never lets me down. Her books are always extremely enjoyable. I can not wait to see what she has in store for us lucky readers next. Whatever it may be I know I will be impatiently awaiting her next release.

Review:

As some of you know, Heather Boyd has become one of my very favorite authors. When I find out she has a new book to read I get so excited, I'm like a kid with a brand new toy. When I found out An Accidental Affair was ready to be released I was beyond ecstatic! When I received this book I was just going to read a few pages. However I became so caught up in the story that I ended up reading the whole thing.

This story is about Lady Arabella that I met in Hunting the Hero. I just knew that Bella had an interesting story to tell and I am SO glad that Heather Boyd told her story.

There is just something about Bella that I adored right away. She has been through so much in life already. She had a loveless marriage that left her with a lot of questions about a normal married life. She is expected to assist with her niece's first season while under the watchful eye of her brother-in-law. In my opinion her brother-in-law is a jerk! I didn't like his attitude towards his own daughter or towards Arabella at all.

Merrick Bishop, the Earl of Rothwell is known for his playboy scandalous lifestyle. Now he is ready to settle down, he just has to find a wife that he wants to marry. When he meets Arabella and gets an unexpected chance to spend time with her, he suddenly finds himself drawn to her. Arabella is a tad bit shy and he isn't sure that he stands a chance with this charming lady at all.

One of the things I really admired about Merrick is that he takes responsibility for his family. He is loyal to them and they are very loyal to him. I don't want to give to much away here but parts of this story just melted my heart.

I really don't want to tell you too much, I don't want to spoil this wonderful story for you. I will tell you there is a LOT of drama that kept me turning the pages of this book quickly. Of course I have found when it's a book by Ms.Boyd I don't seem to have the ability to set it down anyway. Ms. Boyd has a wonderful way of writing an intriguing story that contains a nice amount of drama, mystery and of course some nice steamy scenes as well.

I really enjoyed reading Arabella's story and watching her relationship with Merrick grow. I also enjoyed that a few of the characters from the Wild Randall's series made an appearance in this book. I was excited to catch up with some old friends.

If you are a historical romance fan and have not had a chance to read Heather Boyd's work yet, give this book a try. I really do think you will enjoy it. I know it has certainly hit the list of one of my favorite books so far this year. I have to admit that I was very excited to read Arabella's story and An Accidental Affair surpassed even my expectations.
