Interview: 

Crystal: Today I am excited to have Vanessa Miller here. Welcome Vanessa! Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Vanessa: I have been writing since I was a child. I always knew that I would be a writer. However, I never imagined that I would be writing Christian fiction because when I started writing there weren’t many Christian novels out.

But after becoming a Christian, I kept seeking God about ways in which I could serve Him. That was when I realized that the gift of Writing God had given me could be used to serve him… and I haven’t looked back.

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Vanessa: My favorite part of the book is when Nina and Isaac are reminiscing about the love they have for one another, and then finally get on one-accord for the vision that God has for their lives.

Crystal: Where did you come up with the idea for After the Rain?

Vanessa: After the Rain is the 7th book in the Rain Series. In this book I show the growth these characters have experienced throughout the years. They now have a very successful ministry and a beautiful home in the suburbs. But God uses their youngest son to show Isaac and Nina Walker that they have forgotten their first love… that’s when the drama begins for this family.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Vanessa: Right now I am finishing up the sequel to After the Rain, titled: RAIN In The Promise Land. It will be available mid-May for readers.

Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Vanessa: No, special routine, I just get up every morning and start writing. I pray a lot, especially when I writing a difficult part and I really need guidance for how to bring my character out.

Crystal: Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other?

Vanessa: No, this book is the 7th in the Rain Series. I know the characters like I know the back of my hand. Writing Nina and Isaac Walker’s stories never seems like work… I have too much fun with it.

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Vanessa: I read Michelle Stimpson, Pat Simmons, Francine Rivers, Rhonda, McKnight and a host of other authors as well. I just love books!

Crystal: Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Vanessa: I write Christian fiction, and I can’t imagine myself writing anything else. I love the stories that I create with God right in the midst of the conflict, helping my characters to see the truth based on the Word of God. What could be better than that?

Vanessa Miller is a best-selling author, playwright, and motivational speaker. Every time I wanted to give up, He stopped me from waving the flag. I realized that God ordained my words. I knew that He had more work for me. God is faithful. He brings to fruition what He has ordained to be accomplished, no matter the package used to deliver it.

Have you ever took a step of faith in what you believed you heard from God and got mid-way through and wanted to turn back, put the brakes on, put the car in reverse and start all over? In places of trouble, in that wilderness, in that place where even His still quiet voice is not speaking. This place is where your faith will be stretched, the promises of God will be challenged or questioned. It’s in this place that going back seems like the better solution, at least that’s what your flesh wants you to believe. Clearly what’s in front is more difficult than what is behind.

Divorce is not an option as this marriage will represent Your unconditional love. I count my request as done. I just have one question: When will it be my turn as bride? I’m happy for my girl, but…I’m tired of being alone, crying myself to sleep. Smiling at every man I meet, hoping, praying that he’s the one. I love my nieces and nephews, but I’m ready to be a mother. The official has shot the gun to start the foot race and I’m stuck in the blocks watching my girlfriends run ahead with husbands in tow. Why am I still single? What is it about me that keeps me on this side of matrimony?”

As the tears flowed, Jeanine took her place, two bridesmaids from the bride. She dabbed at the tears with a monogrammed handkerchief provided by the groomsman who escorted her.

When I first got clean from drugs I learned in order to positively deal with any feelings I must first identify them. Today there is a popular saying going around “I felt some type of way.” That phrase doesn’t do anything to promote healing. “I feel some type of way” does not identify a feeling. You cannot heal emotionally by identifying with “feeling some type of way.” The only thing the statement does is give a voice to the fact that there is a dysfunction in your emotions. We must be careful that we do not allow our spirits to latch onto the commonalities society gives us that do not promote good emotional health by handicapping us with catchy phrases that mean absolutely nothing once they are dissected. One of the first tools I was given when I got clean from drugs was a feeling words list. In order to embark on a journey of emotional healing, one of your first steps may be to get a feeling word list and use it.
