#SpotLight - SAGE’S EYES By V.C. Andrews®

Out In with the old and in with the new…

SAGE’S EYES
By V.C. Andrews®

My parents watch me obsessively for signs of evil. They don’t let me out, they keep me away from other people. And I’m beginning to think maybe they’re right to.

Sixteen-year-old Sage is a lonely child, dreaming of hemlock and mysterious ancestors she knows nothing about. Her adoptive parents keep a close eye on her, studying her for warning signs of…something. But Sage has to admit that even she can’t make sense of the strange things she sees and hears. She possesses knowledge that other teenagers don’t, that neither her parents nor teachers—no adult—possibly could.

So when Sage finally makes a friend who understands her alarming gifts, he becomes her confidant, a precarious link to the truth about who she really is. For Sage and the alluring new boy at school share many things in common. Perhaps, they’ll learn, far too many things.

Flirting with Fire by Kate Meader ~Hot in Chicago ~ REVIEW

Kate Meader was a new to me author when I seen the Hot in Chicago series. My first taste of her writing, Flirting with Fire certainly grabbed my attention. I was hooked fairly quickly and I could not wait to see what was going to happen on the next page and then the next.

Kinsey Taylor is a smart, savvy lady that tackles each situation with just the right attitude and skill. This lady has style, the moves, and the attitude to walk right into a situation that would make most ladies blush and maybe turn around. I admired Kinsey right away and bonded with her quickly. Kinsey has been through a lot recently. She's moved halfway across the country, lost a no good rotten fiancee, and a new job. With a BIG problem. That problem's name is Luke Almeida.

Luke Almeida is the fireman that EVERY single lady wants to come to her house to fix all her fire issues. No matter what room they may be in if you get my drift. Luke is hot, hot temperated, loyal, determined, protective, and good at his job. This guy has it all going on. Except he has a bit of a temper that gets him in trouble and now Kinsey's project is to turn him into a sweet kitten loving person.

It's a darn good thing that the first meeting of Kinsey and Luke is in the fire hall because the sparks they are sending off just may start a ferocious fire.  The attraction between Kinsey and Luke is hot and strong. These two have the ability to explode in many different situation. The attraction and chemistry between them is hot but when they have a difference of opinion things heat up just as much.

Over all Flirting with Fire is a great story filled with drama, romance, tension, family loyalty, humor, political issues within the departments, and a few hot and steamy scenes. I immensely enjoyed reading my first Kate Meader story and I look forward to read more soon.

I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that  I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Flirting with Fire.

Stay tuned for my review on Melting Point will be coming soon.

Excerpt:

Tara looked out the window again and realized her pulse was still thrumming. He unnerved her. It wasn’t just his size, it was his attitude. Maybe she was self-conscious because he’d caught her off guard. She was definitely embarrassed that she’d pulled her weapon on him.

She adjusted the vent and got a waft of hot air. His attitude bothered her, but she liked his truck. It smelled like leather and earth and felt deliciously warm. She forced herself to ignore the flutter of nerves generated by being alone in the dark with him. The nerves weren’t from fear but something else. And she wondered which was worse, being afraid of a man she was investigating or being attracted to him?

“You shouldn’t come out here alone.”

She looked at him. “Why not?”

“We’ve got more than a few meth heads around here. You don’t want to walk up on something, not without backup.”

She watched his face in the dimness, uneasy with the protective tone of his voice.

“We confirmed the ID today,” she said.

“I know.”

That ticked her off.

“Won’t be long till the media has it,” he added.

“Where are you getting your information?”

He didn’t answer.

“And the other day,” she said, “how’d you know we were here, me and M.J.? Are you having us tailed?”

Even if he was, he’d probably never admit it. But she at least needed to ask and get his reaction. Shadowing investigators could definitely be considered suspicious behavior.

Although she had to be honest with herself. She didn’t consider him a real suspect. Despite his links to the victim, she simply didn’t feel it.

“I’m guessing you filmed us approaching your property and ran my plate,” she said.

The corner of his mouth lifted. “Nothing that cloak-and- dagger.” He glanced at her. “I’m friends with Crystal.”

“Who’s Crystal?”

“She waited on you at the Waffle Stop. Bright red hair, eyebrow ring.”

She turned to face the window. “Small-town grapevine. And here I’ve been all impressed with your spying abilities.”

“You should be.” He pulled up to her Explorer and parked. “We’re the best there is.”

She looked at him in the darkness, so confident it bordered on arrogance. And the crazy thing was she believed him. She bought into it completely—he was that good.

His eyes locked on hers, and the air between them felt charged with electricity. His gaze dropped to her mouth, and her heart skittered. Was he going to kiss her? He eased closer, watching her, making her heart pound.

All In by Gabra Zackman ~ The Bod Squad Series Book 2 ~ REVIEW

All In is the second book in the action packed massively entertaining Bod Squad Series by Gabra Zackman. I could not wait to read the second book in this series. All In was just as entertaining as Game On.

All In starts out with Jackson interrupting Susannah and Chas' wedding. What a way to kick off a happily ever after then to have it stopped by a friend with a mystery that has to be solved right now. Jackson has news of Susannah's father (whom has been presumed dead) and he fears there is grave danger if they don't act now. So off the team heads to another country where they find danger, maybe a few answers, and definitely a few more questions to the mystery.

Jackson gets paired with the lady of his dream Lisa Bee. Jackson has had hidden feelings for Lisa for a while now. He didn't want to put their working relationship in jeopardy so he has fought his feelings. Oh my do things get extremely hot and steamy when they discover their mutual attraction.

All In has all the makings of a great book. There is suspense, drama, danger, hot and steamy romance, humor, deep friendships, and mysteries to be solved. I have really enjoyed both books in this series so far and I can not wait to read book 3. I'm anxious to see which of the possible couples find their mutual attraction. There are also bad guys still out there that need to have their rear ends kicked or taken out.

One of my favorite things about this series the way this team works together. They have each other backs and are ready to jump in to help a fellow teammate almost before the teammate knows they are in need of help. They are that good together. I formed an bond with each of the characters. They are well written and each has their own unique personality that just fits. Oh and I can not forget all those amazing and fun gadgets that they have. They have some of the most fun gadgets that help them get the job done and to stay in communication with their team.

Gabra Zackman has a nice writing voice and has developed a series that I have enjoyed and can't wait to read more of!

I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on All In.

That Chesapeake Summer by Mariah Stewart ~ Chesapeake Diaries #9 ~ Review ~ Spotlight

That Chesapeake Summer
Chesapeake Diaries #9
 by Mariah Stewart

BLURB:

Jamie Valentine is the wildly successful author of self-help books that advocate transparency in every relationship.  But when her widowed mother passes away unexpectedly, Jamie discovers her own life has been based on a lie.  Angry and deeply betrayed, she sets out to find the truth—which may be in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay.  Cutting her most recent book tour short, Jamie books a room at the Inn at Sinclair’s Point, just outside St. Dennis.

The death of Daniel Sinclair’s father forced him to take over the family inn, and his wife’s death left him a single parent of two children, so there’s little room for anything else in his life.  His lovely new guest is intriguing, though, and he’s curious about the secret she’s clearly hiding.  But in the end, Jamie and Dan could discover the greatest truth of all: that the search for one thing just might lead to the find of a lifetime—if you keep your heart open.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

MARIAH STEWART is the award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of numerous novels and several novellas and short stories.  A native of Hightstown, New Jersey, she lives with her husband and two rambunctious rescue dogs amid the rolling hills of Chester County, Pennsylvania, where she savors country life and tends her gardens.  Visit her website at www.mariahstewart.com, and like her on Facebook atwww.facebook.com/AuthorMariahStewart.

Review:

I just love a good small town romance series. They are one of my very favorite books to read. Mariah Stewart's That Chesapeake Summer is a great small town romance story. I found an instant bond with Jamie Valentine. This poor girl has been through so much. The loss of her mother and a very hidden secret is just about too much for her.

Jamie sets out to find out more about the family secret and ends up in St. Dennis. It has been a while since I have had a chance to read any of the Chesapeake Dairies series but I loved catching up with old friends that I remembered from previous books.

Jamie booked a room Inn at Sinclair’s Point that is owned by Grace Sinclair's family. Grace is a lady that you want to get to know in St. Dennis. She knows all the ins and outs of the town as well as all the gossip and stories. Grace is one of those fun characters that I loved catching up with to see what she had been up to since my last visit to St. Dennis.

Dan, Grace's son, runs the inn. He runs a smooth ship and makes sure that everything is taken care of. He takes care of every aspect of the inn and feels the weight and joy the responsibility that comes with it.

When Jamie checks into the inn, Dan is the one to delivery her suitcases to her room. There is instant fireworks between these two and not all of them are the good kind. There is chemistry and there is also a flare of annoyance.

Dan is a single parent of two teenage kids. A teenage daughter that is adorable and sweet with the usual issues of a teenage girl.

Jamie bonds with Dan's daughter right away which causes more tension between Jamie and Dan. I loved watching Jamie interact with the kids and Grace. They form an interesting relationship that brings great joy to them all.

I enjoyed watching Dan and Jamie get to know each other. There is a nice touch of drama between these two along with a great attraction and sweet romance.

That Chesapeake Summer is one of those books that kept me flipping pages. I could not wait to see what might happen next or what secret might be revealed.

Overall this is my kind of story. There is a nice romance, some lovely friendships, a little mystery, and charming characters. I will be looking forward to the next release from Mariah Stewart. She has a lovely writing style. I was completely engrossed in this story from beginning to end.

I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on That Chesapeake Summer.

Clawed: A Gin & Tonic Mystery by L. A. Kornetsky ~ Review

Clawed is the second book I have had the chance to read in the Gin and Tonic Mystery series. I enjoyed Clawed just as much as I did Doghouse. I love a good mystery and when you add in a couple of adorable animals with it, well I am a happy reader.

Ginny Mallard and her loyal four legged companion Georgie are excited at the potential of a client in another town. Little do they know they are about to become a part of a big mystery that Ginny and her side kicks will be compelled to help solve.

Teddy Tonica and Miss Penny are left behind to hold down the fort and serve drinks while Ginny and Georgie are off investigating the mystery in Portland.

I think one of my favorite parts of this book was Ginny and Georgie investigating things together. As Ginny works her way through the neighborhood talking to the people, Georgie helps out by asking the fur members of the community questions as well.

Ginny and Teddy works so well together. They each have different strengths when it comes to investigating and chatting with possible witnesses or suspects. It's entertaining to watch these two working together to get to the bottom of a mystery.

I love how L.A. Kornetsky includes Georgie and Penny in the mystery investigations. Georgie and Penny have some really cute scenes and talks between them. They do a great job trying to help their humans head in the right direction to solve the mystery.

The mystery and suspense in this book is great. While trying to get to the bottom of the case they end up in a touchy and dangerous situation. It's always interesting to see them work their way out of these situations. Even though it's quite dramatic there is also plenty of humor.

The scenes with the fur characters are just plain adorable and entertaining. I think I fell in love with Georgie and Penny in Doghouse and I was so please to see them again in Clawed. I will be anxious to see what wonderful mystery L.A. Kornetsky comes up with for her next Gin and Tonic Mystery. I'm curious to see if Ginny goes ahead to get her official PI license and what mischief she can find.  I know I will be looking forward to reading the next story in this great series.

Clawed is part of The Gin and Tonic Mystery series. I had not read the previous books before Doghouse and I had no trouble reading it as a stand alone. I think Clawed could easily be read as a stand alone as well. I don't think you will feel like you are missing any pertinent information to the story by starting the series with Clawed. L. A. Kornetsky does a great job of filling in any details and making these books easily read as stand alones.

If you, like me, LOVE fur characters and a good mystery you need to check out this great series. I think you will enjoy it. I know I certainly did.

I was given the opportunity to read this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Clawed.

Game On by Gabra Zackman ~ The Bod Squad #1 ~ Review

Game On is Gabra Zackman's debut book and what a debut it is! I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Susannah “Legs” Carter is one of those kick butt and maybe ask questions later kind of girls. She is smart, witty, charming, and knows how to handle just about any situation. She does find herself in some very interesting and sometimes very dangerous situations.

Her assignment is to get the "goods" on Charles Oakley Palmer III. The instant these two see each other there is an instant attraction. The heat between these two is  HOT and steamy. Chas has a few secrets that he finds himself wanting to reveal to Legs but doesn't want to put her in harms way.

Susannah's team is awesome! The whole crew is intriguing and so darn creative. They all work well together because not only are they co-workers, they are friends too.  This team has all kinds of fun gadgets to use in their investigations.

There is a lot of drama and suspense that kept me turning pages. Just about the time I thought everyone was safe and sound there is danger lurking around the corner. Ms. Zachman has done a great job with the storyline and created characters that are interesting  and fun. There were scenes in Game On  that had me laughing out loud.

I would say if Game On is an indication of Ms. Zackman's work we lucky readers are in for some entertaining stories from a great new author. I can't wait to read All in, the next book in The Bod Squad series.

If you enjoy a mystery with a steamy romance, some great drama and suspense, with humor thrown in the mix then you really need to go grab a copy of Game On now.

I was given the opportunity to read and review this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you.

JUMPED (August 2014; $5.99), the second book in The Aspen Valley Series, is Colette Auclair’s steamy sequel to her “page-turning debut” (Library Journal), Thrown. A young woman in the equestrian fashion business finds herself head over heels for her ex-husband.  Thoroughly enjoying herself at her best friend Amanda’s wedding, Beth is shocked when she is seated next to her ex-husband, Finn, at the reception. Determined to not let this fluster her, Beth strikes up a conversation only to learn Finn isn’t the same man she walked away from.

Relieved the reception is over, Beth is looking forward to a relaxing weekend against the beautiful backdrop of sunny Aspen at Amanda and Grady’s estate.  Little does she know Finn will be partaking in the weekend activities.  But just as Beth decides to keep as much distance between her and Finn as possible, Finn has a terrible accident and Beth is stuck being his bedside nurse.  Over the course of the weekend, Beth and Finn discover that the wounds of their failed marriage are not all that’s left. There are sparks…and hope. But just as they decide to give it another try, Finn confesses a huge secret that could destroy everything he’s fought to get back—Beth, their relationship, and another chance at love.  Will Beth turn away, or will she take a leap of faith and say “I do” once (again) and for all?

My Review: I have had the pleasure of reading both of the books in the Aspen Valley series by Colette Auclair. I have enjoyed each story and found Ms. Auclair's characters to fun and entertaining to read about. I also like how she incorporates the horses into the storyline. I have to admit to being an animal lover so any time animals are included in a storyline I'm hooked....... Read the rest of my review here

My Review: Branded is the third book in the Aspen Valley series by Colette Auclair. I have had the opportunity to read all three books. They have all been very enjoyable reads. They have each had really nice covers as well. I think Branded is my favorite so far, check out that beautiful horse. That alone would make me want to read this book....... Debut novelist Auclair is a 2012 Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Finalist, winner of the 2011 Winter Rose Contest, and a finalist in the 2011 Cleveland Rocks Romance Contest.  Recommended for most romance fans.”

“Romantic fiction with an equestrian theme gets a fun new twist in this novel which follows trainer Amanda Vogel… the star is single, handsome, and has the hots for Amanda. But both characters are carrying hefty loads of their own baggage, and as they navigate through various dramas and horse-related mishaps, the layers (both physical and psychological) start to come off. Thrown weaves horses into the story with a practiced tone, and the accuracy of equine knowledge and horse people adds to the plot. For a fun, entertaining read, be sure to pick up this debut novel by Colette Auclair.”

“Totally accurate, as far as HorseGirls go…Colette Auclair nails the horse stuff…whether it’s describing Amanda’s selection of appropriate mounts for Grady’s beginner daughters, or setting up a human cross-country course for the girls to play Olympics over, or accurately detailing an episode of colic (including the joy when the horse finally poops), or explaining the feeling of connecting with a once-in-a-lifetime horse…my favorite part about the book, aside from the discussions of how horse training prepares just about anyone for human training…is the humor…Aside from getting the horse stuff right, the characters are also well-developed…The story is quite a page-turner, so be prepared to be completely unable to stop–like a runaway horse except actually fun.  And the book does have one pretty detailed sex scene and multiple explicit make out sessions, so it’s not for kids. Bottom line: if you like romantic comedies, you’ll definitely enjoy Thrown.”
