Interview:

Crystal: Today as part of this Bridging the Gap Promotions Book Tour I have the opportunity to ask Erin M. Leaf a few questions. Welcome Erin, I'm so happy to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Erin: Today I am at my desktop computer screen, trying to write, as opposed to yesterday, when I used my laptop, instead, to stare at a blinking cursor. Sometimes, I’ll even be really cruel to myself and try to write on my phone. There’s no cursor, but the white space is the same mocking expanse of attitude that seems to cross all my electronic devices with the express purpose of tormenting me.
As for my past, well, I began writing when I was in third grade. My first story featured a burning building. I think that is where my fascination with apocalypse stories began. I’m always wrecking planets and people in my books.
If you really want to know more about me, I think I have a semi-normal bio on my website: http://erinmleaf.com/about/

Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?

Erin: My favorite scene in DARK, my new release, would have to be the opening of the novel. I adore Greyson’s irritability. And I love Eva’s determination to invade his space. She’s had it rough and just wants some time alone. Is it too much to ask for her to be allowed to wander into his woods for a little peace and quiet? I think not, but Greyson isn’t as understanding as I am.

Crystal:Where did you come up with the idea for your current release?

Erin: DARK began when I sat down at my computer and started typing. I had no idea who was going to come out of my mind, but I think that the concept of a territorial hero has been lurking in my subconscious for a long time now. Eva is my answer to Greyson’s crankiness. She needed to be strong, to stand up to him, yet also vulnerable, so he would want to take care of her.

Crystal: What are you currently working on?

Erin: Right now, I am working on DUSK, the second in the Stronghold series and the sequel to DARK. This one features Eva’s best friend, Lucy, and Greyson’s brother, Solomon. Solomon is a scientist and is very solitary. Lucy is sweet and cheerful and he can’t help worrying about her. Poor guy. He has no idea what I have in store for him. Heh.

Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?

Erin: Yes. I promise myself every day that I’ll start writing in the morning, but inevitably, I can’t focus until I’ve done a million stupid things around the house: laundry, eating breakfast, washing the counter, etc. I usually get going in the afternoon, just when I’m most likely to be interrupted by my sons or husband via text. I don’t know why, but this ridiculous routine seems to work for me.

Crystal: Did you have to do a lot of research for this book or any other? If so do you have a fascinating fact that you have learned you would like to share with us?

Erin: I did a little research, but it was only to fact-check locations and some science stuff. Most of my research is internal: I read voraciously and tend to remember quite a bit of what I’ve read (at least enough to easily look up what I need when I’m writing). I read anything and everything, from science textbooks to romance novels to cookbooks.
The most fascinating fact I can share from DARK: my husband and I drove out to Ohio last year, totally randomly, to pick up a set of tires he’d bought online. So, of course, I decided to put my characters in Ohio.

Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Erin: This is the most difficult question! I’m almost forty-five years old and I’ve read and loved more authors than anyone would ever believe. I couldn’t possibly list them all here. Hmm, what did I read recently? Jean Johnson’s Theirs Not to Reason Why series (hard-hitting sci-fi). Some fanfic. L.E. Modesitt’s Corean Chronicles (fantasy). A bunch of young adult books: Double Negative by C. Lee McKenzie and Knockdown by Brenda Beem (LOVED them).

Crystal: Is there any genre you haven't written that you would like to try?

Erin: I haven’t written a math textbook and NEVER EVER want to try. Genre I haven’t written? Uh…. I can’t think of any. I have been writing in various jobs since I was eighteen. I’ve written software manuals, training materials, news articles, corporate marketing materials, poetry, essays, reviews, and so on. I’ve written novels with three different pen names: young adult, sci-fi, suspense, thriller, romance, lgbt, multicultural, mystery….
Wait! Wait, I know: I want to write a humorous memoir sometime. I really want to tell someone about the time my younger son ate a Twinkie and then threw it up, WHOLE, one hour later. That was funny. It really was (especially since my hubby cleaned it up, yay).

Blurb:

Greyson Dark doesn’t like strangers in his territory.
Eva Waverley doesn’t like being told to keep out.
After her father's suicide, hiking is the only thing that makes the bullying in Eva's new school bearable. When Greyson rescues her from a tumble, she falls for him despite his autocratic demeanor. She's leaving for college soon—what does it matter if she crushes on a man everyone else fears?
Greyson suspects Eva is his true mate, but duty demands he remain aloof. She doesn’t know he's a long-lived Sentry, sworn to protect Earth from an ancient alien menace. When she leaves for college, he's relieved, but four years later she comes back, all grown up and more gorgeous than ever.
Greyson can't afford to care for a mortal woman, no matter how compelling. Hackers are attacking Stronghold, the Sentries' net, and Spiders are swarming beyond the moon, but when Eva is attacked, he discovers he can't just let her die…

Excerpt:

“Eva, don’t,” Greyson said gently. His fingers touched her temple.
She refused to take his comfort. “I’ll do it,” she said, turning her face away from his hand. Anger rushed through her. Damn John. And damn Greyson, for being a Sentry.
“I already told my brothers no.” He pulled her close.
Eva didn’t have the strength to fight him off again. Her lips hit his damp shirt and she let her head fall into his shoulder. He tasted like rain and dust.
“I would never use you as bait,” he murmured.
She bit her lip, hard. If she let herself think about it too much, she’d lose it. “You have to. It’s the only way.” At least he believed she was innocent. Small favors, she told herself grimly.
“I’ll find another way,” he murmured, kissing her hair.
He was being so gentle. The strangeness of it undermined her best intentions. Dammit. I can’t do this alone anymore. Eva blinked back tears, and hurriedly wiped them away. Screw it. I’ll do what I have to, but I want to live a little first. She grabbed onto him, twining her fingers in his shirt. “I don’t want to die, Greyson.”
“God,” he muttered harshly.
The next thing she knew, he’d lifted her up in his arms. “Greyson, stop,” she cried, hanging on for dear life.
“Shh,” he admonished her, heading for the stairs.
She shoved her face in his chest. “I don’t know how to do this.”
“I do,” he said, kicking open the door to his room with his foot. The bed was lit with red and gold light as the sun set over the valley.
Eva trembled as he lowered her down. “I thought you couldn’t get close to anyone. You said you had to remain aloof, as a Sentry.”
He growled as he took off his shirt, tossing the wet fabric to the floor. “I changed my mind.”
She stared at his chest. Muscles played over his torso as he popped the buttons on his jeans. She knew he was strong. He’d picked her up like she weighed nothing at all, but she hadn’t realized until right now just how much his clothing hid. He unlatched the metal clasps of his boots and kicked them off, padding barefoot to the bed. Her eyes went to a rip in his jeans as her whole body went hot. Whoa, she thought, overwhelmed. Is this really happening? She’d been dreaming about this moment for years and had all but given up on being with Greyson intimately.
“Don’t be afraid,” he said, tugging at the arms she’d self-consciously wrapped around her chest.
“I’m sorry,” she said, voice cracking. “I’m not perfect and thin and strong—”
“Shh.” He cut her off. “You don’t see yourself the way I do.”
She frowned at him, but he picked up her hands and put them on his shoulders. His skin is so hot. She kneaded the warm muscles beneath her palms, trying to convince herself she wasn’t dreaming.
When he closed his eyes and shuddered, she bit her lip. “I’m sorry,” she said again, unable to help herself, but then he moved in and kissed her. The shock of his lips moving against hers destroyed her ability to think. All she could do was hang on and trust him.
****
Greyson released the control he held over his empathic power and let himself sink into her emotions. He didn’t understand why she thought she was so unattractive—Eva was one of the most beautiful women he’d ever known, not just in body, but in strength of character. She’d been through so much and come out the other side a survivor. She eroded his self-control until he couldn’t fight himself any more. He hadn’t let a woman get close to him in two hundred years, but this slip of a girl destroyed all his good intentions. He nibbled on her delectable lower lip. “You’re beautiful,” he murmured, hands on her hips. No way was he going to stop now. He’d committed to this, Bruno and his suspicions be damned.
She gasped, opening to him perfectly. He kissed her again, savoring her taste. Her hands clutched at his arms and he kissed down her jaw, reveling in the softness of her skin. “You’re strong,” he said, unbuttoning her blouse and pushing it over her shoulders. His breath caught when he saw his ring nestled between her breasts.
“I’m not,” she argued, but he kissed her a third time, cutting off her protests.
“Gorgeous,” he whispered when he let her up for air. He peeled the fabric from her body. Her generous breasts strained against the black satin of her bra and he wasted no time in nuzzling against them. She slid her hands into his hair as he tugged at the cup, popping a nipple out over the top. He sucked it in, playing at it with his tongue until it pebbled.
“Oh God, Greyson,” she gasped, fisting his hair.
He grinned against her skin and undid the clasps, sliding the bra away. He licked at her other nipple, plying the first one with his thumb. His senses were wide open and he could feel just how much she liked this. When he bit down, she arched her back. The tiny bit of pain shot her arousal higher. Greyson groaned as the echo of it funneled through him. His dick hurt where it was trapped in his jeans. He bit down again, then undid her pants. He paused and looked up her body. Her fair skin flushed under his gaze.
“There’s no going back from this,” he said, wanting her to be certain. He reached up and snagged a lock of her gorgeous hair between his fingers. “Be sure.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Character Interview:
Q: How did you first meet your writer?
A: She was brainstorming ideas for a series that would tie into Gemma Halliday’s Play Nice book. She needed to incorporate Goren Petrovich into the plot and developed me and my siblings as a 3-book series.
Q: Did you ever think that your life would end up being in a book?
A: I’ve led a unique life, being orphaned at the age of 7 along with my older brothers, Jake and Max. We lived on the streets for nearly a year before Petrovich took us under his wing. He educated us in the fine arts, math, reading but also taught us how to kill. It’s not too surprising that my life was made into a book.
Q: What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?
A: No doubt about it, the action is my favorite part. I can hang with the big boys all day long.
Q: Did you have a hard time convincing your author to write any particular scenes for you?
A:  Because of the dark subject matter (sex trafficking) it took some convincing to make her believe that it would be about redemption and good triumphing over evil. She also didn’t always like to write the fighting scenes. She’s kind of a wimp when it comes to violence.
Q: Do you infiltrate your writer’s dreams?
A: Most definitely. That’s when I’d tell her what should happen next.
Q:  What do you like to do when you are not being actively read somewhere?
A: Don’t tell anybody, but I like to hang with Kane. He’s fun for an FBI guy.
Q: Are you happy with the genre your writer has placed you in?
A: A whole lot of suspense with a touch of romance. Yep, that’s me.
Q: If you could rewrite anything in your book, what would it be?
A: I think I would have blown up the bad guy’s body after I killed him. My writer thought that was a bit over the top.
Q: Do you like the way the book ended?
A: Yep. Except I’m still embarrassed about I did in front of Kane. And my brothers? Geez, they’ll never let me forget about it!
Q: Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?
A: I think Kane and I worked well together and I could see many adventures in our future. He’d have to break some of those boring FBI rules though, which could be problematic. Then again, I think he broke every rule in the book when we took down Trinity together.
Q: What is your least favorite characteristic your writer has attributed to you?
A: She made me way too stubborn. I’m not nearly that bad.
Q: Do have any secret aspirations that your author doesn’t know about?
A: I want to wow Kane in a fancy dress one of these days and have a night on the town. I think for once I’d like to dress like a sexy powerful woman. Of course I might have to wear my brown leather boots underneath. But a gal needs to be comfortable.
Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I’m a retrieval specialist. I specialize in getting people back who’ve been kidnapped. I do things nobody else can or wants to do.
Q: What do you wear when you go to sleep?
A: I like to be comfy so a soft worn in t-shirt (sometimes Kane’s) and some drawstring cotton pants or shorts.
Q: What is your most prized possession?
A: A picture of my family before my parents were killed. I keep it stashed in a drawer in my bedside table.
Q:  What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday?
A: I like to watch movies, mostly blow-everything-up action movies. Sometimes I like to watch scary movies, but only if Kane is around. (Don’t tell a soul about that though.)
Q: What is your vivid memory of your mother and father?
A:  They were the kindest sweetest people are earth. My mom was always smiling. My father was always laughing. In fact, there was a lot of laughter in my house. I remember my mother used to brush my hair every night after my bath and tell me fairy tales. They weren’t sappy fairy tales, where the woman has to wait for Prince Charming, but ones about girls becoming strong women who fought for what they believed in. Sometimes, she’d let me wear the ruby necklace that my father gave her. I loved that necklace. It had their initials carved into the back. When they died, the necklace went missing.
Q: What turns you on?
A:  Kane. Please don’t breathe a word of that to him or his ego will get even bigger. He’s comfortable in his own skin. Doesn’t get rattled easy and gets me for some strange reason. He’s intelligent and over-the-top patient. He’s kind and gentle, but never smothering.
Q: What turns you off?
A: Men who think they can do things better than me just because they’re men.
Q: What sound or noise do you love?
A: I love the sound of rain as it pelts against the windows of my New York City apartment. Sometimes, I climb onto the fire escape and just sit there and enjoy the moment, especially in the very early morning when the city hasn’t quite woken up yet. It reminds me of a time when I still had my parents and we would go for hikes in the summer rain.
Q: What sound or noise do you hate?
A: I hate the sound of people screaming and yelling at each other. It’s a waste of time and oxygen. If they’re so unhappy, they shouldn’t be together.
Q: What other profession would you like to try?
A: I think I would make a good boss. I like to tell people what to do. Just ask my brothers. As long as I don’t have to be in an office all day long. That would drive me crazy. Maybe I could take Jenning’s job one day. (He’s my boss at The Alliance.)
Q: What would you not like to do?
A:  I like a lot of action, so the idea of sitting behind a desk would make me crazy. And I don’t do well playing by the rules, so being an FBI agent probably wouldn’t work either.
Excerpt:
“Get the hell out of there. Now.” Jenning’s voice crackled to life in Sabrina’s earpiece.
She ignored his command even while her skin itched, foretelling her sixth sense was kicking in. Yep, she was close.
“Now, Shaw. His friends are heading your way. You—"
She clicked off the receiver to stop the tirade that no doubt would follow.  A few minutes. That’s all she needed.
Tip-toeing up the metal staircase in her black combat-style boots, she inched her way to apartment 203. Eddie Ramer might be able to fool the cops but not her. The bottom feeder had been enticing Caitlyn for weeks with his promise of high paying modeling gigs. And then she’d disappeared.
Coincidence? Yeah, right.
A heavy smell of weed permeated the air, despite the open balconies outside the apartment doors. The metal railing and no-tell-motel-appearance of the building didn’t shock her. In fact it worked in her favor. The thin walls made her privy to the conversations along the journey to her prize.
201. 202. Finally, 203.
Peeking inside was made impossible by the closed drapes. Instead, she crawled under the window, then slid along the wall stopping outside the apartment door. A cacophony of motorcycle engines in the distance signaled Eddie’s friends were getting closer.
Her heart beat heavily while her fingers tingled. Everything inside her longed to grab the gun strapped to her thigh, but she resisted the urge. Only if necessary. She held her breath, keying into the conversation on the other side of the door.
“Let me see what you’ve got, baby.” The voice came from inside.
Sabrina closed her eyes, dispelling the vile thoughts racing around her head. Focus remained the key to her success.
“I thought—" The girl’s shaky voice signaled her fear.
 “You have a smokin’ bod, but I gotta know you can sell the goods. That’s the way this works. Only then can I open doors for you.”
Enough.
With one strategically placed kick, her boot separated the lock from the flimsy door. Seconds later, she charged inside, tackling Eddie to the ground. He tried to reverse her dominant position, but she was one step ahead of him, bringing the tip of her blade to his throat, a mere flick away from his carotid artery.
She slid off his chest and eased them both to a standing position, never wavering on the location of the blade. “Now Caitlyn and I are going to leave without any trouble from you or your ragtag group of merry men. Got that?”
His eyebrows furrowed while his lips curled into a smirk. “Caitlyn? She’s ancient history.”
A sinking sensation settled in her gut as Sabrina turned toward the girl. Hovering close to the bed, a young Hispanic girl with striking looks and long dark hair stood, her blouse partially unbuttoned. Definitely not Caitlyn Collins.
Not good.
That half second of non-focus on her part was all Eddie needed to grab her forearm, dislodging the knife and sending it flying across the room into the wall. Despite his bulk, the alcohol reeking from his pores slowed his reflexes.  She easily ducked the clumsy punch he sent her way. When he grasped her bicep and pulled up, that left him open for her counter strike to the round part of his shoulder, followed by a punch to his liver through the intercostal nerve, robbing him of breath, then a chop to the side of his neck, hitting his vagus nerve with enough force to stun.
Sabrina grabbed the girl and ran.
Dread chilled her bones as she bounded down the steps, yanking the frightened girl along with her. For the first time in her life she’d failed her mission. She’d given the Collins family hope when she’d promised to rescue their daughter. Now she was coming back empty handed. There had to be another way.
Will Nick and Addie remain married in name only, or will a romantic honeymoon for show turn them into true newlyweds?
Enjoy an excerpt:
Time to focus on the present—a paradise full of beaches and sun and fruity drinks with
paper umbrellas. She could swim and sail and participate in the forty-seven other activities the resort offered or read one of the novels she’d brought.
“What are you thinking?” Nick asked.
“That I deserve this lovely island.” She raised her chin, buoyed by a resolve she hadn’t felt in . . . years. “I’m going to make the most of the next ten days. Let my hair down and dance in the sand. Who knows when I’ll get to do something like this again?”
Nick’s eyes darkened, turning serious. Something rare for him. He started to speak then
stopped himself.
“Your turn,” she said. “What are you thinking?”
“This is only our first vacation. You’re not going to have to wait another nine years for another one, okay?”
The raw emotion in his voice sounded nothing like the Nick she knew, but the determination behind each word warmed her heart. “Okay.”
The plane landed and motored across the water toward a long wooden dock that led to a pristine curved strip of white sand beach. Two paddleboards lay by the shore’s edge. Palm fronds blew in the wind.
Her breath caught in her throat. “It’s like a postcard.”
“Only better. This is real life. The island is ours for the next week and a half.” Nick motioned to the people on the dock. “Looks like we have a welcoming committee. Show off your pearly whites. I see cameras.”
Brought to His Knees ~ Boxed Set ~ 11 TOTALLY AWESOME Erotic Stories ~ Review ~
Brought to His Knees is a box set full of hot and steamy stories. I have to say that I had not read anything by many of the authors featured in this set but thoroughly enjoyed each story. These stories are the perfect length to read in one setting. Honestly they would make mighty fine bedtime stories.
There is a little something for everyone. There is a shifter story, a male/male story, a menage, a few cowboy stories,a reunion story for two, and a friends to lovers story. Brought to His Knees contains some great story lines, PLENTY of steamy scenes, and a lot of great reading.
A.M. Griffin's Dark Wolf Enterprises is the first story in this box set. This story gets the set started with plenty of drama and suspense. Trudy Hollander is investigating some accounting problems for Dark Wolf Enterprises when bad things start happening. When Kristof Farkas hears of the problems he steps in to keep Trudy safe. That's when things heat up. These two set of plenty of sparks while they are trying to stay safe and solve the mystery.
Amy Ruttan's Building Bridges warms things up with William and Molly's story. When William and Molly first meet they rub each other the wrong way. It's not too long when the sparks of frustration turn into flames of desire.
Anya Richards' Three Strikes features two strong men that finally can no longer resist the temptation of being together. These two have a lot of things they must work through and a few obstacles they must over come before they can be together.
Cynthia D’Alba's A Cowboy’s Seduction is one of those cowboy stories I was talking about. Who doesn't love a hot, sexy cowboy? Brock Wade's siblings send him on a dream vacation on a island for a Christmas present. He doesn't really want to go, that is until he meets a beautiful lady escaping the winter cold. Natalie Diamond ends up taking a vacation that she didn't expect. However, she's just glad to be some place warm. When Brock and Natalie meet they instantly warm up the island just a little bit more. I enjoyed watching these two get to know each other and really enjoy their vacation together.
In Danica Avet's Born to Sin Taylor sets out to prove to Sin that she is NOT just one of the guys. When this woman sets her mind to seducing the man she wants she gets doesn't hold anything back. This is one of those fun friends to lovers stories that are always fun to read and watch the relationship grow into something even stronger.
Felice Fox's The Sound of Your Name is another great cowboy story. Oh my goodness is this one hot and steamy! Ellie has set out on the Rodeo circuit to see if there is anything there that her readers might enjoy. She had no intention of becoming Brody Cameron very sexy lucky charm. When a relationship starts out with no communication and a few secrets there usually plenty of drama to follow. This is certainly the case with Ellie and Brody. They have a lot of things to work through and explain in order to make this relationship more than just a lucky charm.
Jennifer Kacey's Beneath the Pages is one really steamy story with a bit of menage. I enjoyed watching these two very independent people fall for each other. Radigan is used to getting what he wants and what he wants is Acacia. Acacia is use handling things her own way. When these two individuals get together they create some massive fireworks.
I enjoyed Lynne Silver's Cruising for Love. This one had some really humorous moments when Andi discovered just what type of cruise her friend brought her on. I also really enjoyed when she first meets up with Jonah again. These two have a past together so it was a lot of fun watching them get to know each other again. It was entertaining reading about them trying to find ways of being together without anyone finding out. I always enjoy reunion stories.
Sabrina York is the one author I have read before in this set. As some of you may know I really enjoy her work. Sabrina is one of my favorite authors, she does an awesome job of creating interesting characters and story lines that are very entertaining and have a way of warming things up.
Sabrina York's Whipped is not only one really hot steamy story but also left me with that awe feeling in the end. Dane is suppose to be helping his best friend celebrate his wedding. However all Dane is feeling is a great loss of his best friend. He doesn't plan on falling in love and becoming "Whipped" in the way he feels Cody is. However, when Dane meets a beautiful woman in the elevator things change. I don't want to tell you too much but this meeting leads to some steamy moments, some humorous moments, a little drama, like I said one great awe at the end.
In Sayde Grace's Chief Sin there may be just a little bit of mischief going on to bring Mavis Tanem back to town and back into Bowie's life. These two share and past and not all of it is pretty. However when they are thrown back together things heat up pretty quickly. This is another reunion story that was fun watching these two get to know each other again.
Tina Donahue has created one really steamy stormy to finish up this box set.
Make Me Surrender is the story of Mercy finding a way to get to know Travis and Dutch a lot better. This one is filled with some humor, lots of steam, and a few touching moments. Tina Donahue rounded out this great box set with plenty of warmth.
Over all I really enjoyed this whole set. I would highly recommend you grab a nice cold glass of something to drink, turn on your air conditioner and settle in for some warm stories. This is a great deal for only $.99. I suggest you grab your copy NOW!
I was given the opportunity to read this great set so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Brought to His Knees.
Whipped
By Sabrina York
Dane Coulter is mourning the loss of his best friend, fellow Special Ops buddy, Cody. Oh, Cody didn’t die. It’s worse. He’s getting married. Cody is, in Dane’s opinion, whipped.
Dane swears he will never suffer the same fate. But when he meets a woman who can take all his dominant loving and beg for more, he realizes he may have met his match. It’s a damn shame she’s the one woman in the world his man-code deems untouchable…his best friend’s sister.
Read an Excerpt (18+ Only, Please—this is steamy stuff)
He was bigger than he’d been in high school. Bigger, taller and just…more. His muscles, lacquered by a tight black tee shirt, bulged. Tattoos danced over his biceps. The planes of his face were angled. High cheekbones, dark brows, long blade of a nose all the same, but sharper. His eyes hadn’t had those shadows back then either, that predatory glint. His hair—his thick mop of curls—was gone, shaved off, revealing the perfect shape of his head. His chin, however, wasn’t shaved. It was covered by a smattering of dark fuzz. A scar on his cheek, rather than detracting from his looks, made him even more fascinating, dangerous.
And he smelled…delicious. As he moved, his cologne, a clean enticing scent, enveloped her in a cloud.
Oh, he was dangerous all right.
She didn’t care.
The slight buzz from the margaritas at the bachelorette party, the sexual sizzle ignited by the strippers who’d burst in on their party wearing camo fatigues with rip-away crotches, all contributed to her bravado.
In real life she would never hook arms with some random guy and sashay by his side to his room. But hell. This was Dane. The man of her fantasies. And, judging from the hunger in his expression as he looked down at her, the heat that passed between them where they touched, he wanted her.
Thank God she wasn’t still the dorky teen with braces she’d been when they’d last met.
She looked amazing tonight. He happened to wander by and notice her. No one else was around. And he wanted her.
It was as though, somehow, magically, all the stars had aligned.
There was no way—no way—she would miss this opportunity.
Excitement danced low in her gut as he swiped his room key and led her into his suite. It was a nice suite—not as sumptuous as Angie’s, but nice all the same—with a small sitting area and an enormous king bed. The windows looked out on the sparkling lights of the City that Never Slept. Or one of them.
“Can I get you a drink?” he asked, taking off his watch and dropping it on the table by the door. It drew her attention to his forearms, thick and muscled and sprinkled with dark hairs. They were roped with thick veins. She’d always had a thing for bulky forearms. And she’d always had a thing for Dane. The combination was irresistible.
She tipped her head to the side and blew a bubble with her gum. “Margarita?”
He waved at the glossy wood armoire against the wall. “I have a mini bar. It’ll have to be shots. What’s your poison?”
“Tequila then.” Might as well keep a good thing going.
He hunkered down and searched through the fridge, pulling out a tiny bottle of tequila for her and whiskey for him. He cracked them open and dumped them unceremoniously into two glasses and handed her hers. No ice or anything.
Good thing it didn’t matter to her, or she’d be pissed at his cavalier attitude. The drink was lubricant, a time filler. They were dancing around a seduction, and they both knew it.
Or…not.
Apparently seduction was not necessary. Because Dane took a swig of his drink and said, with no preface whatsoever, “So do you have any no-nos?”
She gaped at him. “No-nos?”
“Anything you won’t do? Because I’ll be frank. I like a little kink.”
Holy God.
First of all, the heat scorching her was mind-numbing. Literally. Mind. Numbing. Those brash words from Dane’s gorgeous lips and she nearly lost her balance.
Second of all—he liked kink.
So, in fact, did she. Nothing super dark, but a little slap and tickle for sure.
“Um…” She took a sip of her drink. She shuddered as the harsh bite of liquor burned through her. It clashed with the flavor of her gum. “What kind of kink are we talking about?”
He strode to his suitcase and fished around, pulling out a long leather strap with two loops on the ends. Her eyes fixated on it. She shuddered.
“I want to tie you up,” he said, his voice low, taunting, as though he expected her to squeak like a mouse and scuttle from the room.
The. Fuck.
“Hmm. I think I can handle that.”
“I’ll probably smack your bottom.”
Also good. She tried not to flinch in anticipation. His hand on her ass? Gawd.
“I won’t hurt you, though. I’m not into that. And of course, I’ll use protection.” He held up a pack of condoms.
Well da-ham. He’d come prepared. A smile curled on her lips.
“Billy said your fee’s been paid.” His brow quirked.
The smile froze on Tina’s face. A combination of horror and rage and something else altogether snarled through her, as she realized how right she’d been. Not only did he not recognize her—after knowing her her entire life, for pity sake—he thought she was a hooker.
Granted, she did kind of look like a hooker, with makeup plastered on as if with a trowel. But still…
She glanced at him from beneath the impossibly long lashes The Master had glued to her lids. Not her style, but she liked the way they looked. The way they made her feel…like someone else. Someone sultry and daring. Someone Dane would want.
To tie up and spank.
Aside from that, the temptation to have him, taste him, fuck him, ran rampant in her. For years she’d fantasized about her older brother’s best friend. All through puberty and long after that. Every man she’d met, dated or been with had been gauged against Dane Coulter. None of them had measured up.
Ah yes, the temptation to have him was overwhelming.
Not to mention how much fun it would be watching him shit a brick tomorrow, when he realized who she really was.
Too delicious to pass up, really. The whole package.
He stood there in the middle of the room, holding the strap in one hand and the condoms in the other, waiting for her reply. Though he was all Dom, she couldn’t help but notice a hint of tension in him, as though he was, on some level, afraid she’d say no and waltz away.
He wanted her. And he wanted her bad. It was the heat in his eyes that gave him away, the way they flicked over her and burned with hunger. Yeah. Irresistible.
Sure. She could be a hooker for the evening.
