#Giveaway Q&A ~ THE SNOWMAN byYolanda Renée @yolandarenee @MCBookTours

It’s a pleasure to be participating in author Yolanda Renée’s THE SNOWMAN Blog Tour through MC Book Tours today.

Series: Detective Quaid Mystery
 by Yolanda Renée

The author is offering a tour-wide giveaway featuring both print and eBook copies from her series. More information on the giveaway is listed below.

Q&A with Yolanda Renée:

Q:   Do you have a favorite snack that you like to munch on while working? If so, would you mind sharing what it is with us?

A: I love Nacho Cheese Dorito’s and diet coke. LOL It’s such a bad habit. I’ve tried to give it up but – sometimes you just gotta have what you’ve gotta have.

Q: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?
A: Thanks for asking: In Chapter VI of The Snowman, Steven plans to propose to his girlfriend, but this happens:

“I'm sorry, Steve. We're—there is no us.” She gulped air as though breathless. “I'm seeing someone else.” Her eyes were wide as she waited for his response.
He felt like a moose had kicked him in the chest. “You've met someone?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I've known him for a while. Dereck Johansson, the guy I met in Washington during my internship. I told you about him. At first, it was just a friendship, but, well, it's gotten more serious. I’m so sorry. Really. But there’s no easy way to do this. Dereck came to Juneau with me, and I'm going to introduce him to my parents.” She turned away. “I think he's going to ask me to marry him.”
Steven’s spine stiffened. His hands fisted, his head spun, and his stomach roiled. “Talk about hitting a guy over the head with a sledgehammer.”
“I’m sorry. Really I am. That’s why I drove all the way out here. I had to tell you in person. Even though we’ve been together for three years, things have changed. Your goals have changed—and I’ve changed.”
Steven swallowed hard. “I see—but you flew to Anchorage three times this year. Nothing you did or said these last six months indicated there was a change in how you felt. Were you dating him then, too?”
Her face flushed pink. She bit her lower lip and bowed her head.
“Sorry, but I can't say thank you for coming and mean it.” Steven turned, walked into the cabin, and shut the door.

Q: When you're not busy writing wonderful stories to keep us lucky readers entertained, what do you like to do?
A: When I worked full time as an accountant and as a mother, writing was my hobby. Now, writing is my job, and reading is my hobby. In my twenties, when I lived in Alaska, I hiked the mountains of the Alaska and Brooks Ranges, and since then hiking/walking has always been a joy. To keep the stories flowing I enjoy walking rain or shine, with my muse. I compose many a chapter while getting in my 10,000 steps.

Q:  Do you have a favorite background noise you like to have going while you write (TV, music, kids playing)?
A: When concentrating I don’t hear the background. Whether it’s a television set, radio, my noisy family, or complete silence, I go into the world I’m creating and completely block out the everything around me. I used to do that as a child too, when reading. My mother would stand right beside me screaming my name and I wouldn’t hear her, made her very angry. My husband and sons still find it highly annoying, but I enjoy disappearing into my stories.
Thanks for the interesting questions and for hosting The Snowman Tour!

About the Book:

This is a prequel to the author’s Detective Steven Quaid Mysteries. This story tells of Steven's first case as a rookie detective. It takes place 10 years before the events in MURDER, MADNESS & LOVE, the first book in the series.

It takes a true artist to pursue his victims in the art of seduction, and Stowy Jenkins is no exception, especially with blood as his medium.

Stowy Jenkins, aka, Stone, and as Alaskans refer to him, the Snowman, is a true artist. His muse, Gigi, is the ultimate inspiration for his painting. Her rejection inspires him to use a very unusual medium…blood.

While art may be his passion, the taste for blood is his obsession, and multiple murders, the result.

Rookie, Detective Steven Quaid, is no fan of the Snowman’s murderous exhibitions. A twisted and deadly relationship bond the two men and neither knows who will come out of it alive.

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense
Publisher: TRACE Enterprises

Contains explicit sex & violence

At one time Alaska called to me, and I answered. I learned to sleep under the midnight sun, survive in below zero temperatures, and hike the Mountain Ranges. I've traveled from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, and the memories are some of my most valued. The wonders, mysteries and incredible beauty that is Alaska has never left me and thus now influence my writing.

Despite my adventurous spirit, I achieved my educational goals, married, and I have two handsome sons. Writing is now my focus, my newest adventure!

The other books in the Detective Quaid Series include:

A killer plays cat and mouse with a young widow against the snowy backdrop of an Alaskan winter. Branded a black widow after the suspicious death of her millionaire husband, Sarah Palmer flees Seattle for Anchorage. However, the peace and quiet she hoped to enjoy in her hometown is soon shattered. A killer is murdering Sarah look-alikes on the 14th of each month, taunting Sarah with a valentine of evidence. After her experiences in Seattle, Sarah is slow to go to the police. When she finally does, she finds Detective Steven Quaid—Anchorage P D’s hotshot investigator—has not only heard the rumors, he believes them. Worse, her aloofness and composure only confirm his suspicions. Is Sarah a victim or a very skilled manipulator?

World damnation is a psychotic man’s goal, but two obstacles stand in his way, greed and a dedicated detective.
Catching Alaska’s most notorious serial killer as a rookie made Detective Steven Quaid a hero, but falling in love with the victim of his last case tarnishes that status. While attempting to repair both his personal and professional life, he stumbles upon an unusual case–and an even more extraordinary foe: a man who believes he is Lucifer. An insidious man who delivers Quaid the ultimate choice: save his fiancée from an assassin’s bullet or stop the sacrifice of a young girl.

Flames burn between a hardboiled cop and a gifted artist, but soon extinguish as another man’s obsession ignites into an inferno of desire, driving him to destroy the object of his madness.
Detective Steven Quaid is ready for new challenges as Anchorage's top detective, but not until he marries the woman of his dreams on New Year's Eve. Determined to give Sarah the wilderness honeymoon she desires, he turns his grandfather's cabin into the perfect honeymoon retreat. After the final details are complete, Steven treks into the mountains to hunt. On his return to the cottage, instead of Sarah, he is greeted by several police officers and a bloody crime scene. Accusations fly, and Stephen flees into the wilderness, his heart racing and thoughts etching into his soul. The wilderness is unforgiving, but Steven faces it head on: Caught between a massive grizzly and a black bear in a deadly tug of war, he is barely saved from death's door by the fortuitous appearance of his uncle. Despite surviving multiple injuries, Steven continues his investigation as he recovers, but answers don't come quick or easy. Having enlisted the aid of his number one suspect, Steven faces a struggle that has become more than personal. This one just may cost him his heart.

#Review Breaking the Honor Code by Stanalei Fletcher ~ @StanaleiFletch,

Breaking the Honor Code
Northstar Security Series Book 4
 by Stanalei Fletcher

Stanalei Fletcher hooked me with the first book in her Northstar Security Series and became a must read for me. I could not wait to get my hot little hands on Breaking the Honor Code and when I did I could not put it down! This is one of those books that is so incredibly awesome that you have to see what in the world could possible happen next.

Allison Richards is smart, really good at her job, she's sweet, independent, and loves her family very much. This lady can crack code with the best of them. I think one of things I really liked about her is that she can tear apart just about anything, fix it, and put it back together again. She loves her nephew so much and even creates fun games for him. She is the perfect "favorite" aunt.

Sloan Cartland is playboy handsome with the reputation to go with it. He has been sent on a mission to get to LA to help solve who is hacking into their system. On the way he's sent to check on Allison and to take her with him. It sounds like a simple enough plan doesn't it? The weather had other ideas. Allison, her nephew and Sloan are all snowed in together.

Allison and Sloan don't exactly hit it off right away. The tension and friction between them starts to add to some attraction. Then things start to go wrong. I won't tell you too much because you are going to want to read each and every twist and turn for yourself. While Allison is trying to figure out what is going on with the network for Northstar Security things start pointing at her. Oh my! My heart was pounding before but when the drama and danger started my pulse was pounding, my breath was catching, and I was flipping pages as quickly as I could.

This is the fourth book in the Northstar Security series but can easily be read as a stand alone. All the books will stand on their own but let me tell you they are all awesome so you may just want to pick up the whole series when you grab this one. The charters are charming, well developed and very easy to bond with. The story lines are all fabulous and each and everyone one of  Ms. Fletcher's books are page turners.

I was given the opportunity to read this fantastic story and it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you.

#CoverReveal ~ Haunted Blade By J.C. Daniels ~ @shilohwalker

Haunted Blade
A Kit Colbana Novel
By J.C. Daniels

About the Book:

Haunted, Hunted…and harassed.

Never let it be said that Kit Colbana had ever been given the easy road. Or even the semi-paved road.  Only weeks after dealing with the mysterious—and murderous—being called Puck, she’s got another killer on her hands. Perhaps even two.
Some of the bodies turning up bring up haunting memories of a past she longs to forget, but as always, that past is chasing her at her heels, like a hated shadow.

As the body count racks up, there’s an imbalance of power, particularly among the vampire population and Kit must yet again deal with ugly memories as one of the monsters who tried to break her is set free to deal with the imbalance of power.
Yet while a power struggle rages in East Orlando, there’s another, more subtle battle taking place and Kit feels like the center of it all.

Arrogant? Maybe. But the dead bodies don’t bear the mark of her grandmother’s pet killer by sheer coincidence…and she doubts her nemesis being released is either.

Releasing in September.

“Relax,” he said smoothly, his gaze locked on hers, his expression soft, unfazed—the look of a man not dancing with the lawyer who could ruin his life or at least playoff season. She had to learn this guy’s secret, because there was no way he was this unaffected. Yet, his hands weren’t sweating the ways hers threatened to, and the only heartbeat she could hear thundering was her own.
She forced a slow and what she hoped was unobvious breath. “I am relaxed. I’m not the one who should be worried.”
The palm of his hand spread across the exposed flesh of her back and she prayed the tingling sensation in her spine didn’t result in goose bumps. “So you’re saying I should be?” he asked, turning them in rotation to the steady beat. Despite her resistance to this dance, her hips betrayed her by swaying in sync with his, and her feet kept time with his every step. He led with a silent authority that she was forced to follow. And for the first time in her life, she wasn’t hating giving up control.
“I think so, yes. My client is…”
He brought their joined hands between them and placed a finger to her lips.
Her heart all but stopped.
“Why don’t we save the shop talk for the courtroom? Let’s just enjoy this dance.”
She swallowed hard, but nodded. Dancing in silence, she could do that.
Unfortunately, Ben seemed eager to chat. “How long have you been practicing law?”
He expected her to remember stats as his hand on her back dipped slightly lower, his hold drawing her even closer? It had been far too long since she’d been enveloped in the arms of a man who felt and smelled so strong, so confident…How long would it be again if she went ahead with her plans for a baby? She pushed the thought aside when he stared at her, still waiting for an answer. “Twelve years,” she said, cutting out her time as a junior lawyer and intern, so as not to age herself. She knew from his online Wikipedia page that he was thirty-four, two years younger than she.
“Do you love what you do?” he asked.
“If I say no will I get the inspirational ‘do what you love and it will never feel like work’ speech?”
Is that a no?”
She shook her head. “Actually, I really do enjoy my job.” She couldn’t say watching families get ripped apart by bitter divorces was something she loved without sounding like a sociopath, but she enjoyed her career.
“Can I ask why only professional athlete divorces?”
“I was dumped by a jock,” she said.
Ben laughed. “So one guy ruined it for us all, huh?”
She nodded then shook her head. “No. Everyday cases—with normal, everyday husbands and wives—just seemed a little too…real,” she said.
His blue eyes burned into her and his grip tightened on her hand. “So, guys like me aren’t real?”
She swallowed hard. He felt real…He felt more than real—he felt amazing. His arm wrapped around her felt deceivingly safe and his hand holding hers felt warm and secure. God, she could see herself giving in to these painfully real feelings…“You’re probably one of the more real ones,” she said, hoping he didn’t detect the slight quiver in her voice.
He nodded slowly as though unsure whether her words were a compliment. “Have you ever been married?” he asked, rotating them in time to the music.
“That’s crossing a line into personal.”
“That’s less personal?” She raised an eyebrow.
He smiled. “Guarded much?”
The effect of his smile from a safe distance was knee-weakening. This close, it was downright dangerous. She quickly averted her gaze to the other couples on the floor. “How long is this song anyway?” She felt trapped the way she had in tenth grade when Robbie Gropes-a-Lot Harris had tricked her into dancing with him at the winter formal to “November Rain”—the full eleven-minute extended version. Except Ben’s breath smelled minty fresh and not like tacos, and his arm draped across her lower back made every fiber in her being spring to life, making her want to flee for a completely different reason than the one Robbie had evoked.
“Do I make you uncomfortable?”
Damn right. And it should be her making him uncomfortable. There needed to be a power shift between them and fast. “Of course not.”
He pulled her closer. “You make me uncomfortable,” he murmured, his expression suddenly serious. Every inch of her body was pressed to his and she could barely catch a breath. Dancing was a really bad idea—a torturously bad idea. Being in his arms reminded her of all of the things she’d sacrificed for her career, of all the things she’d told herself she didn’t need…
“G-good,” she said, her voice cracking. “As I said, my client…”
“I don’t mean the divorce case. I mean you.” He touched her cheek and her skin burned. Thank God he was holding her so tightly because she couldn’t trust her legs.
Their stare locked and held for what could have been a lifetime, as everything seemed still and quiet around them.
Still and quiet.
The song had ended.
She yanked her hand free of his and stumbled away from him, inhaling a gulp of air into her deprived lungs. “Well, dance is over. I’ll…uh…see you.”
He nodded, the charming polite smile back on his face and for a second she wondered if she’d imagined the intensity in his gaze seconds before. “Goodnight, Olivia.”
Her own name sounded foreign coming from him. She longed to hear the sound again, and she was an idiot for wanting something so dangerous. The NHL’s biggest playboy had just worked his charm on her, and she’d lost all common sense.
She turned and headed straight for the table, leaving him on the dance floor.
She had to pull it together, but she also had to admit the unfortunate truth. Never before had she been tempted to kiss the enemy.

Most people fall in love several times over a lifetime, but one always sticks out more than others, whether you end up with them or they are the one who got away.

When I was five, I thought I was in love with my best friend, Jimmy, who lived next door. That changed when he fed my favorite Barbie doll to the dog, breaking my heart. When I was ten, I fell for my schoolmate Robbie when he helped me up after someone pushed me into the mud. My heart later shattered when my dad told me we were moving to the big city of Nashville from our small backwoods town in Kentucky, and I had to say goodbye to him. At fifteen, I fell for Marcus Jacobs, the smartest guy in school. He was our valedictorian, and I never told him how I felt. He “came out of the closet” after high school. And then I turned twenty-one and met Derrick Collins.

Derrick was the guy who made me realize that I’d never known love before I met him. Reading about toes-tingling, heart-stopping kisses, and romantic gestures, I always questioned whether such things existed. My lifelong question was answered the first time we kissed, and I felt it course through my body from my lips straight to my toes with electric pulses racing everywhere in between.

Growing up, I always had an issue with weight and never felt comfortable with the opposite sex. Puberty hit and my waistline expanded more than my breasts. Luckily, I had a growth spurt around sixteen. I was taller than average, five eight to be exact, with blonde hair and light green eyes, with that I was happy. My pants size was a different story. My hips were curvy, and my breasts caught up to them, although they didn’t point forward as much as my hips pointed outward.

With friends like mine who built my confidence every day, I thought I knew what it meant to feel beautiful. It wasn’t until the day I felt Derrick’s undeniable passion for me that I truly felt like the goddess Cameron always tried to convince me I was. I’d tried every diet known to man to be skinny; it just was not in the cards for me, and I’d come to terms with that fact. My body may not have been perfect, but I ate right, and I wasn’t lazy. It was just my luck I had a crappy metabolism that allowed me to maintain a softer, slightly rounder stomach. Did it frustrate me? Yes. I would’ve loved to be one of those women who ate anything they wanted and never gained a pound. However, life didn’t deal me that hand, and I’d become content with myself.

It’s true that having a boyfriend wasn’t the most important thing in life, but it sure was nice. I loved my time with Derrick. I didn’t need him to make me happy; I wanted it. Derrick made the sky bluer, chocolate taste sweeter, and the sun shine brighter, at least it seemed that way with him in my life. Prince Charming had nothing on this man. At times I became discouraged, but Derrick was there to make me laugh. Other than Cameron, no other man had told me I was beautiful in a way that made me believe it. He was practically perfect in every way, like a male version of Mary Poppins. Wow, that wasn’t sexy I guess, but if Derrick was one thing for sure, it was sexy.
