His Eye is on the Sparrow
By Lisa Sparrow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~INTERVIEW:
Crystal: Today as part of this Write Now Literary Virtual Book tour, I have the chance to ask Lisa Y. Sparrow a few questions. Welcome Lisa, I'm so excited to have you here today. Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?
Lisa: I am a 44 year old single mother of two wonderful children, Lauren and Leon. Writing is my passion and very cathartic for me. My goal is to become a motivational speaker, full time author, and mental health advocate.
Crystal: Do you have a favorite scene you would like to share with us?
Lisa: I don’t have a favorite scene per se. The subject matter isn’t pleasant, but because writing is cathartic for me it’s all served to help in the healing process.
Where did you come up with the idea for His Eye is on the Sparrow?
I got frustrated trying to find books trying to understand depression and they are either written by mental health professionals or celebrities and I am neither, I am everyday people. I have had alot of people ask me what can they do to help when I am in a mental health episode and it reasons that people just want to understand and help their loved ones, so I wrote this for them.
Crystal: What are you currently working on?
Lisa: Right now I’m working on another autobiography about an 18 month period of time when a childhood friend tried to kill me. I spent a lot of time trying to rebuild my life after that and this book will talk about the many challenges that I encountered.
Crystal: Do you have any special routine that you follow when you are writing?
Lisa: I have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) , which causes me to clean constantly. My whole apartment HAS to be clean, I light candles and listen to my play list on my phone.
Crystal:Did you have to do a lot of research this book or any other?
Lisa: Yes. I read everything that I could get my paws on about the big rambling gothic insane asylums, history of the mental health movement and treatments. I cried more than I can possibly admit and am grateful that I was born during THIS time period.
Crystal: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?
Lisa: Donald Goines, E. Lynn Harris, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Mary Monroe, Regena Thomashauer, and SARK.
Crystal:Is there a genre you haven't written that you would like to try?
Lisa: I would love to try my hand at romance.
